Blake Shelton is ready to change his ways.
While talking with Entertainment Tonight, Shelton admits he’s attempting a New Year’s resolution again this year that he hasn’t been successful at in years past. And we have to say, this is one New Year’s resolution we are rooting for.
According to Shelton, he’s ready to cut down on his drinking or stop drinking altogether. “I haven’t managed to stop drinking yet,” Shelton admitted.
“Even cutting back has been hard. I mean, it’s a resolution though. And I’ll say it again right now — that’s my New Year’s resolution. To either cut back or stop drinking altogether. Let’s just say I said it.”
And it looks like he’ll be stepping into 2024 on the right foot. Shelton admitted he and Gwen will likely be celebrating the new year at home and will probably be in bed by the time the clock strikes 12.
This interview comes just days after Shelton opened up about being a stepfather to Gwen’s kids.
“I’ve had step-parents,” Shelton explained to TODAY. “I think it’s, in some ways, harder, more difficult. I try to be careful about when to step back and be smart about when to step back and just talk, but no matter what, I’m always there if I’m needed.”
When singers Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani became husband and wife, Shelton wasn’t only making a promise to Stefani, but he was also making a promise to her three sons as well. Prior to their relationship, Stefani was married to Gavin Rossdale. During that marriage, she and Rossdale welcomed three boys into the world.
Now, Shelton admits that he’s falling more in love with his stepsons every single day. During a recent interview at Nashville’s Country Radio Seminar, Shelton revealed that he had been thinking about life outside of his music career right before meeting Gwen Stefani, People reports.
“What I’ve been looking forward to doing for the last four or five years … is eyeing that timeline, that part of my career, where I just need to start stripping some things away. You gotta get some life in there, and marrying Gwen [Stefani], I’ve married into a family. She’s got three boys … and all of a sudden you go, there’s other stuff.”
However, Shelton admits that he thinks Gwen was initially skeptical of him, in terms of being a stepfather when their relationship first started. “I think Gwen thought when we first started seeing each other, that it was just gonna be a moment in time because of that.”

But in the singer’s eyes, as he revealed during his interviews, he didn’t hesitate at all when it came to welcoming Stefani’s boys into his life. Which, given his own personal history, isn’t that surprising.
As Shelton continued, his father actually was his first introduction to step-parenting when his father married his mother, who had a baby from a previous relationship. “He took Richie on and raised him from the time he was 1 year old, and my brother never thought of my dad as anything other than his dad,” Shelton explained.

His dad set the example. “You got three boys? Awesome! My dad did it. My dad raised me. I could do this. I didn’t know what I was signing up for, but I was all about signing up for it. And every day I’ve fallen in love with the boys as much as I do with Gwen.”
Now, Blake is loving getting to introduce Stefani’s Los Angeles-raised boys to a whole new world. He recalled how clueless they were the first time they visited his Oklahoma ranch, but now it’s like “Disneyland” for them.
“When it comes to burning things and starting fires and throwing hatchets, you better get out of the way,” Shelton told the audience. And Gwen didn’t just make Shelton a father, she also brought him closer to God.
“I think honestly, looking back, that under the circumstances that Gwen and I fell in love with each other and got together was all the proof I needed,” he said. “She has such a strong faith in God.”
With Stefani, there is God in everything. And know Shelton sees that too.
