Bill Gates has achieved a lot in his 67 years on this planet, but now he has a new title to his name – grandfather – after his eldest daughter, Jennifer Gates gave birth to her first child with his husband, Nayel Nassar. The couple shared the exciting news in an Instagram post, giving us a look at the baby’s feet.
Jennifer, 26, and Nayel, 32, declined to share the baby’s name and birth date but wrote, “sending love from our healthy little family” in the caption. They did, however, reveal that the baby is a girl – which was actually announced back in December when Jennifer posted about her beautiful baby shower.
The pregnancy announcement came in November when she shared a photo of her baby bump for the first time. Photos of her baby bump followed in her baby shower post, a Christmas photo, and a ‘Happy Birthday’ post in January for her husband, Nayel – who is an Egyptian-American professional equestrian.
Bill Gates might be a grandfather for the first time, but it likely won’t be his last grandchild. He shares three children with Melinda French Gates – aside from Jennifer, he has a 23-year-old son named Rory and a 20-year-old daughter named Phoebe. Melinda and Phoebe commented on the new baby’s photo.
“Welcome to the world. My heart overflows,” wrote Melinda, while Phoebe added three red heart emojis in the comments. The new mother also added a big thank you to everyone in the comments section – “Thank you, everyone, for your well wishes they mean the world to us!!!!” Jennifer wrote.
Also taking to the comments was Martha Stewart, who sent her best wishes to the newly-minted family of three. Martha Hunt, Mario Dedivanovic, Christina Najjar (known as Tinx), Marcy Blum, Alexa Dell, Raphael Macek, Sophia Kianni, Chio Aachen, and Wes Gordon also extended their congratulations.
Jennifer Gates and Nayel Nassar got married on October 16, 2021. They had a beautiful and lavish wedding in Westchester County, New York. The wedding came just 12 days before Bill Gates turned 66, marking quite a momentous and memory-filled month. Now, the family has a new addition to love.
Bill Gates Talked About Being a Grandfather in an Essay
On December 20 of last year, Bill Gates wrote a year-end essay on his Gates Notes website. He talked about his outlook for 2023. and while he wasn’t a grandfather just yet, he opened up about what it meant to be one in just a few months – expressing how it’s causing him to look at the world through a new lens.
“Simply typing that phrase, “I’ll become a grandfather next year,” makes me emotional. And the thought gives a new dimension to my work. When I think about the world my grandchild will be born into, I’m more inspired than ever to help everyone’s children and grandchildren have a chance to survive and thrive,” he wrote.
He went on to talk about how the childhood death rate (under-5 deaths) has been cut in half over the past two decades, but also touched on how the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine have slowed that progress. His Gates Foundation and Breakthrough Energy hope to change that.
