“I’m sorry to bring this news, but I am excited to celebrate where he is right now. My brother Jay went to be with Jesus just a couple hours ago.
“You’ve seen him walk the uphill battle and you guys helped carry him through so much,” he continued. “Even though COVID took his last breath, Jesus was right there to catch him.”
Big Daddy Weave is a Christian band that was formed in 1998 and was made up of players Mike, Jay and members Joe Shirk, Jeremy Redmon and Brian Beihl.
Curb Records, the band’s label, confirmed Jay’s death in a statement Monday. “We are devastated by this loss and are trusting the Lord to guide us through this difficult time,” the statement said. “All of your thoughts, prayers, and support have been and continue to be deeply appreciated.”

“My heart’s broke[n] for my family here but also for Jay’s family in Florida. But we all just really wanted to thank you for walking with us through so much, you know, for so long,” Mike added in his video.
“The Lord used him in such a mighty way out on the road for many years. And anybody who has come into contact with him knows just how real his faith in Jesus was,” he said of his brother’s faith. “The prayers of healing can now turn into prayers of thanksgiving now that Jay is in God’s presence.”
Jay was hospitalized due to complications from COVID-19 in late December. He is survived by his wife, Emily, and their three children, Makenzie, Madison and Nathan Weaver.
The Christian radio station K-Love shared its condolences on social media Sunday, writing, “Our hearts are saddened to hear that Jay Weaver, former bass player in Big Daddy Weave, has passed away. Please join us as we pray for Jay’s wife, three children, and the Weaver family.”
