While it has been widely reported and confirmed by her longtime agent that Betty White passed away peacefully in her sleep, more information regarding the days leading up to her death is being revealed.
After Betty White’s death certificate was made public, it was revealed that just six days before her passing Betty struggled with some health issues. According to TMZ, a source revealed that the actress suffered a stroke.
Betty White’s Cause of Death Updated on Her Death Certificate
The source revealed that Betty was both alert and coherent after suffering the stroke, but died in her sleep six days after. As TMZ reports, “a cerebrovascular accident can be caused by blood clots or broken blood vessels in the brain.”
Another source told People that the stroke was “mild” and re-confirmed that White was asleep when she passed on. It’s unclear how the stroke affected Betty, if at all, during the six days she survived.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, White passed away just 18 days before her 100th birthday on December 31, 2021. Her agent and close friend, Jeff Witjas, confirmed that Betty died “peacefully in her sleep at her home early [Friday] morning.”
He added, “Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever,” Witjas admitted. “I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much. I don’t think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again.”
Witjas also had to combat rumors that White’s death was in any way connected to COVID-19. “Betty died peacefully in her sleep at her home. People are saying her death was related to getting a booster shot three days earlier but that is not true. She died of natural causes. Her death should not be politicized — that is not the life she lived.”
