A four-year-old boy, Benjamin Cobb, was tragically killed by a 60-pound pit bull.
Police responded to a 911 call made by the little boy’s 14-year-old sister. The Detroit Free Press reported that the girl called the police saying a dog was attacking her brother while her mom tried to stop him.

Hazel Park Police Chief Brian Buchholz told local reporters that the mom “heard a low growl, turn and the attack was already happening.” She was in the room with her son at the time.
She tried to stop the attack by stabbing the dog with scissors and a kitchen knife, according to WXYZ-9. Tragically, though, the boy died from his injuries.
The family was taking care of the pit buill for a friend and it had only been in the family’s home for the day, according to WWJ.

Police officers tried to use a taser to stop the dog, but it ran out of the house. The pit bull was ultimately euthanized, according to the local news.
To help offset the cost of the funeral, the family set up a GoFundMe page. The family wrote, “On October 29,2019, we experienced a families worst nightmare when a dog took the life of Benjamin. No words can ever explain the depth of our love for him.”
The family continues: “This has taken an unimaginable toll on our family, friends, and all those who knew our sweet boy. A kind gesture to help a friend in a time of need, for a dog that was said to have never shown aggressive behaviors has turned into a horrifying loss for our family.”
Our thoughts are with the Cobb family during this difficult time.
