30 Beautiful Spring-Inspired Baby Names for Girls, Ranked by Uniqueness

Given that we associate the season of spring with new life, it’s no wonder that there’s an entire genre of baby names inspired by all that the season brings. Flowers blooming, raindrops falling, green grass, chicks hatching from eggs, and sunshine! Ah, spring might be the perfect season, and who wouldn’t want to find baby name inspiration from a perfect season? You could spend the rest of your life mulling over spring-inspired baby names trying to find the perfect one, so we collected 30 of our favorites and ranked them by uniqueness. You could go the more obvious route — Blossom or April — or get a little weird with it — Indra or Freya — but regardless, we think you’ll find the perfect spring-inspired baby name for your little girl below.

30. Hunter

30 Beautiful Spring-Inspired Baby Names for Girls, Ranked by Uniqueness

For a long time, Hunter was thought of more as a boys’ name, but it has steadily been becoming more popular for baby girls. Of course, the name has associations with the act of hunting — it literally means “one who hunts” — an activity that does pick up a lot in the spring. But there’s also hunter green, a rich color that evokes spring’s lush bounty. It’s not the most obvious spring-inspired choice, but it is pretty popular overall. We think you can make it work with the spring angle though!

29. Blossom

Now, this is an obvious spring-inspired choice for a baby name, but it’s a classic for a reason! Probably more than any other name on the list, Blossom evokes the essence of spring. ‘Tis the seasons for flowers to… well… blossom! And a good majority of people would consider a blooming flower as the official mascot of spring. It may not be unique, but it is a great choice regardless.

28. Sage

Sage falls on the “new age-y” end of the baby name spectrum, but it could work for just about anyone. Sage, of course, is an herb — expect a lot of plant-based names here! — and its own shade of green. Again, spring’s reputation for lush greenery makes this a good, slightly-offbeat choice for a spring-inspired baby girl name.

27. April

Naming your baby girl after a spring month may seem like an obvious way to go, but we unreservedly love the name April. It is, of course, the fourth month of the year, usually the official or unofficial start of the spring season. It comes from the Latin “aprilis,” which itself is derived from “aperire,” which means “to open.” Like a flower, one could say. So spring-y in more ways than one!

26. May

May (or Mae) is another spring month-inspired choice. Most people tend to think of May as the start of summer, but that doesn’t technically happen until June, so we have to count May for spring. Originally, May gained its popularity as a name for baby girls as a pet name for Mary and Margaret. May has lost a lot of its popularity over the last century, though it is still fairly common. And it’s a great choice for a spring-inspired name, as it evokes warmth, beauty, and a certain spring-like charm.

25. Poppy

Another flower name! Poppy comes from the name of the red flower that bears the seeds we tend to like in our muffins. (The word “poppy” literally comes from the Latin for “red flower.”) Though it is a floral name, it is less overtly feminine than other choices in that same category. It has an energy to it that we really like. Again, it’s not all that unique, but it is absolutely one of our favorites. And given that it is becoming more and more popular, others seem to agree.

24. Violet

Violet is, naturally, another floral-inspired spring baby name. It was once incredibly popular before falling out of favor in the mid-20th century. But like many great baby names of the past, it is making a wild comeback in terms of popularity. In fact, it may be more popular than its ever been, according to NameBerry. Violet comes from the Latin for “purple,” and the purple flower that bears this name is a perfect spring icon.

23. Laurel

Laurel, which has its origins in Latin, is a baby girl name inspired by the laurel tree. So not technically a flower-inspired name, but still plant-inspired. But that’s OK because spring is all about the plants! Laurel was once a quite popular name in the mid-20th century. Its popularity dropped in the 2000s, but it has definitely been making a comeback for the last 10 years. We like it because it’s a fairly normal name — like Lauren or Laura — but with a little personality of its own.

22. Thalia

Thalia has its origins in Greek and means “to blossom.” So if the name Blossom is a little bit on-the-nose for you, maybe Thalia is a good alternative! Thalia was one of the nine Greek muses, so in addition to being a great spring-inspired baby girl name, it’s a great choice for fans of mythology and the allure old-world power and grace. (And in case you were curious: The muse Thalia presided over comedy and pastoral poetry.)

21. Amaryllis

Another name that has its origins in Greek, Amaryllis means “to sparkle.” That in and of itself is a great fit for spring, but there is also a flower called amaryllis that makes this choice almost too-perfect if you’re in search of the perfect spring-inspired name. It’s kind of a mouthful, and it’s not the easiest name to spell, but in terms of floral-inspired names, it is one of the more unique choices!

20. Clover

We love the name Clover, which has its origins in English and means “key.” But most people would probably associate the name with the clover plant. You know, the four-leaf clover? The ultimate symbol of good luck and fortune? Why wouldn’t you want to bestow upon your baby girl a name with such lucky associations?!

19. Juniper

Referring to the juniper tree and the berries it produces, Juniper is another great plant-inspired but slightly-left-of-center baby girl name that has been gaining traction for several years. The word juniper actually has its origins in Latin, and means “young,” so this is another great two-for-one spring-inspired name. You get the plant associations and the young, fresh, new vibe that we tend to think of when we think of spring.

18. Moa

Moa is a Swedish name for baby girls that means “mother.” Despite being popular in Sweden, the name hasn’t really caught on yet in the United States. So it has a uniqueness to it… if you aren’t Swedish, that is. Given that we associate Mother Earth — and birth in general — with the magic of spring, we think this is a perfect spring-inspired name that also has a worldly edge to it.

17. Nova

Nova comes from the Latin for “new,” which makes it a perfect choice for a spring-inspired name. After all, spring is about newness. New life, new blooms. The light at the end of the dark winter tunnel. Since 2011, this name has skyrocketed in popularity, and we totally understand why. But just know that you’ll probably meet some other Novas at daycare and school over the years.

16. Willow

Willow, which comes from the Old English “welig,” meaning “willow,” refers, of course, to the willow tree. Yes, more botanical-inspired baby girl names! But it’s spring; what did you expect?! We love this name because it exudes calm and grace, just like the willow trees themselves. It has steadily been increasing in popularity since the 90s, so it may not be the most unique name on this list, but you really can’t go wrong with this one. And who wouldn’t want Willow Smith as a name buddy?

15. Birdie

And now we take a (brief) pause from the plant-inspired spring baby names for one inspired by a critter! The sound of birds chirping: Is anything more spring than that? Birdie is absolutely one of our favorite baby names, period. It has a casual feel to it, and despite its increasing popularity — Jessica Simpson named her most recent daughter Birdie Mae, which, now that we think about it, is the most spring-inspired baby name ever! — it still feels unique. But it also feels strong, fun, and old-fashioned in just the right way.

14. Chloe

OK, so the name Chloe is not, in and of itself, all that unique. It is, and has been for quite some time, one of the more popular baby girl names around. But we feel that most people don’t think of this as a spring-inspired name, which is funny because it comes from the Greek meaning “young green shoot.” And there’s nothing more spring than a young, green shoot. Chloe also features in Greek mythology as an alternative name of Demeter, goddess of agriculture and fertility. Those are some serious spring bonafides!

13. Eartha

Here’s where we really start getting into some more interesting spring-inspired baby name choices. Eartha, which means “earth,” duh, evokes the season of spring inherently. So many of our spring associations have to do with the earth — snow melting, plants blossoming, rain falling, rivers running full, and beyond. Despite having one very famous person (Earth Kitt) associated with the name, it is an incredibly rare choice. So if you want a spring-inspired name that no other baby girl is going to have, this one is something to consider.

12. Indra

Not everybody loves the rain, but it comes every spring regardless. The name Indra, which has its origins in Hindu and Sanskrit, means “possessing drops of rain.” So if you’re looking for a spring-inspired name that isn’t just based on a plant or the color green, this one should be a top contender. It’s worldly, unique, and just straight-up beautiful.

11. Leilani

In search of a flower-inspired name that’s less prevalent than Violet or Poppy? Try Leilani! The name, which has its origins in Hawaiian, means “heavenly flower.” This name has seen a massive increase in popularity since the start of the new Millenium, but it still feels fresh. It rolls off the tongue so beautifully, too!

10. Verde

If you like the idea of honoring spring’s greenness but still want to go in a more unique direction, consider Verde. The name comes from the Spanish for “green,” so it has spring connotations without being too obvious. Verde still has not become overly popular, at least in the United States, so it’s a good choice that offers both a bright, spring feeling and some originality.

9. Denver

Denver is typically thought of more as a boys’ name, but it has been increasing in popularity for girls over the last decade or so. Sure, it refers to the city of Denver, Colorado, which is known for its nature and greenery. But its origins are actually from French, and it means “green valley or from Anvers.” A perfect, not-so-obvious spring-inspired choice! For a girl, anyway.

8. Fleur

Ooh la la! Fleur comes from the French for “flower,” which you probably already knew. And while naming your baby “flower” might seem like the opposite of a unique spring-inspired choice, the fact that it’s French lends it a sophisticated, classy, and luxurious feel. Plus, though the name is fairly popular in Europe, it isn’t all that common in the U.S. So it’s a unique choice that people will also get without you needing to explain. Sounds good to us!

7. Saffron

Saffron is a yellow spice that has luxury associations due to its price. We love this as a spring-inspired baby name, because it evokes the right imagery — it’s plant-related, and its yellow color reminds us of a newborn chick — while still feeling like its own thing. It is more popular in the U.K. than in the U.S., so again, if you’re looking for something off the beaten path, this one should go on the list.

6. Freya

Freya is a name that has long had a foothold in Britain and other parts of Europe without much of a crossover to America. That began changing within the last decade, as the name has been steadily rising in popularity on this side of the pond. It’s still relatively rare here, though, so now’s the time to use it! Freya comes from Norse and means “noble woman.” Its spring associations come from Freya, the Norse goddess of love, beauty, and fertility, all things we associate with spring.

5. Nari

Here’s another example of a spring-inspired baby name that benefits from a foreign language. Nari is Korean for “lily,” and so it’s a great choice if you love the name Lily but want something a little less common. (Lily has been within the top 100 baby girl names for the last 20 years or so.) Super-unique, beautiful-sounding, and oh-so-subtly spring. Perfect!

4. Anastasia

Anastasia has its origins in Greek and Russian, and its meaning translates to “resurrection.” So while we’re certain you’re familiar with this name, we doubt you thought it was a spring-inspired choice. Resurrection, rebirth: That’s what spring’s all about, baby! Plus, it has old world charm for days!

3. Avril

Calling all Avril Lavigne fans! OK, so maybe people of a certain generation can’t avoid associating this name with the pop-punk musician, but we recommend you look past that roadblock if at all possible. If you like the name April but want something a bit more unique, Avril is for you. It means April, the most spring-like month of all.

2. Calla

Calla has a few springtime connotations. For one thing, it comes from the Greek for “beautiful.” We think we can all agree that spring is beautiful! Secondly, the calla lily is a goregeous flower that immediately evokes spring imagery. This is a good choice if you are looking for a floral-inspired baby name that doesn’t sound like a floral-inspired baby name.

1. Aya

Meaning “colorful or bird” in Hebrew, Aya is our top choice for a unique, spring-inspired baby girl name. It perfectly evokes the season, which is known for both its colors and its birds, and plus it just has an upbeat, energetic feel to it. It’s sort of like saying “yay!” or “yeah!” It’s beautiful in its simplicity. It has slowly been gaining traction in the US over the last decade, but it is still relatively rare. So it covers every base: Its subtly spring-related, beautiful, and accessibly unique! We have a feeling it will continue getting more popular over the years, so now’s the time to get in before it gets too trendy.
