Baltimore Mom Charged After Burning 4-Year-Old Son in Scalding Bath, Taking a Lyft to Dump His Remains

Mom Charged With Killing Son Malachi Lawson in Scalding Bath, Taking Lyft to Dump Remains

A Baltimore mom has been charged with killing her four-year-old son, Malachi Lawson, after his remains were found in a dumpster last weekend.

Alicia Lawson, 25, was arrested by the Baltimore police for allegedly killing Malachi in a scalding hot bath and then taking a Lyft to dispose of his remains. Alicia had initially reported Malachi missing, saying he had last been seen at his grandmother’s house. In addition to Alicia, her partner, Shatika Lawson, 40, was charged.

The couple have been charged with child neglect, first-degree child abuse, reckless endangerment, tampering with evidence, and giving false statements.

The Baltimore Sun, WJZ and ABC News shared information from the charging documents which detailed the last moments of Malachi’s life. The couple had been giving him a bath after he soiled himself. While they were washing the dirty clothes in a sink nearby, they noticed that Malachi had “serious” burns on his body.

They did not call 911, however, because they were afraid Malachi would be taken from them. Instead, they spent nine days treating the burns at home themselves.

On August 1, Alicia woke up to find Malachi dead. She then allegedly wrapped him in a blanket, called a Lyft and took the car to a dumpster 10-miles from her house where she disposed of the body.

The police wrote, “From the time of the child’s injury to the fabricated call to 911, neither Alicia or Shatika sought medical treatment for the child, instead seeking to hide his injuries for the sake of their own well-being which resulted in his death.”

According to People, both women remain behind bars.
