Audrey Roloff Shares Emotional Photos from Her Son Bode James’s Birth, Says There Is Nothing Like Holding Your Baby for the First Time

Audrey Roloff is opening up more and more about her birth experience the second time around. Recently, the mom of two shared an emotional photo that was taken just moments after giving birth to her son, Bode James, a month ago.

The photo shows Bode finally in his mother’s arms, as her husband Jeremy Roloff looks down at his baby boy with a smile and Audrey cries a sigh of relief.

“That feeling when you hold your baby for the first time…It’s unlike anything else…such an overwhelming rush of emotions,” the mom of two wrote in the raw post. “As Sheldon Vanauken would say, ‘A moment made eternity.”

The couple also shared additional details about Bode’s birth this week on their podcast, Behind the Scenes and on Instagram. In a lengthy caption, the proud mom shared that she had gone in for her 40-week appointment on January 8 – Bode’s due date – but found she was only three centimeters dilated.

The morning of January 8th I went in for my 40 week appointment???????? and I was 3cm dialated but not having contractions or any signs of labor yet… other than Bode feeling like he was going to fall out of me he was so low???? I just assumed he would come late because Ember was 12 days late????????‍♀️ But since it was my due date there was a little bit of extra hopefulness that just maybe… ????????⁣ When I got home from my apt. I snapped a pic of my 40 week belly and posted it saying, “Happy due date baby boy, you can come out now.” Little did I know… I was just a few hours away from holding our son for the first time????????⁣ ⁣⁣ I had lots of Braxton Hicks all throughout my third trimester so I wasn’t really paying much attention to how consistent they were this time around. I just figured I’d know for sure this time around when it was the real deal. But with Bode it wasn’t so obvious????⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Around 4:00pm I was having lots of consistent Braxton Hicks contractions, but they were a little more uncomfortable than normal. By 4:30 I thought what the heck… I guess I’ll start timing these just to see????????‍♀️They were about 4 minutes apart. “Just in case” I went up stairs and put the last minute things in my hospital bag and change my clothes. While upstairs the contractions turned into the kind where you have to stop and focus on breathing. ⁣ ⁣ At 5 pm I called my mom and said she better come over to be with Ember “just in case.” I still wasn’t convinced???? My mom showed up at 5:30 and at this point my contractions where about 3-4 min apart and painful enough for me to tell Jer, “I think Bode might be born on his due date.”⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ My labor with Ember was pretty fast, so we knew we wanted to air on the side of leaving sooner than later. We ended up leaving right after my mom arrived. Straight into rush hour traffic???? 25 minutes of laboring in the truck while in stop and go traffic????????‍♀️ Jer may have run a few red lights????⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ We checked into labor and delivery at the hospital at 6:30 and I was 8 cm dialated???? … Bode was born at 7:36 sooooo from the time we got there, things happened fast! Audrey Roloff Shares Bode’s Birth Story

After the check-up, the expectant mom went home to wait for her baby boy to arrive. She took this picture shortly after her appointment.

Her daughter, Ember, was 12 days late so Audrey was prepared for Bode to arrive late as well. She shared that she had a lot of Braxton Hicks throughout the third trimester, so she wasn’t timing her contractions until much later in the day.

At that point, her contractions were only four minutes apart. “I went upstairs and put the last minute things in my hospital bag and change my clothes,” she wrote. “While upstairs the contractions turned into the kind where you have to stop and focus on breathing. “

Audrey still wasn’t convinced she was in labor, though, and didn’t go to the hospital for another two hours. She continued:

After arriving at the hospital, she was eight centimeters dilated and Bode made his arrival a little more than an hour later.

Feeling extra grateful for the simplests moments like this one. I cannot imagine the grief of losing my husband AND a child???? Just the thought of it is unbearable. I’ve been thinking since I heard the news yesterday about the helicopter crash, how social media has enabled us to share in the grief and mourning of those we don’t personally know… ⁣⁣ As much as this platform has its pitfalls, one thing I love most about it is it’s ability to move our hearts towards compassion. It gives us an opportunity to “mourn with those who mourn,” to pray for those we don’t personally know, to honor legacy, and take inventory of how we are living our own fragile lives. I don’t know about you but it seems like the heartache I’ve seen in my social media feed these past couple months has increased – tragic accidents, miscarriages, terminal illness, children taken too soon, devastating fires, and more. ⁣⁣ ⁣ I’ve struggled to find the right response, and in my questioning and praying and heart aching, I’ve paused long enough to to listen to God. And in the words of Lysa Terkeurst, “… there is always a message there. And usually it’s only in the shock of loss that we all stop long enough to hear it. It’s only when we are forced to face the excruciating reality of how very fragile, short, and precious life is, that we realize what we now must do to live in light of eternity. Love more. Forgive more. Hold on to God’s truth more.” ….Always more. Yes and amen????????⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I found comfort in these words…⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ “We know if no sparrow falls beyond the ken of your compassion, that you also, in this moment, inhabit our sadness at this wounding, your respond at the worlds brokenness somehow deeper than our own. Be near to us, O God. Be near each of us who must reckon with the sorrow of death and the sting of separation, for what we feel in this loss is nothing less than the groan of all creation. Our finite minds cannot trace the deeper mysteries of your eternal mendings, but this we know with certainty: You are merciful and loving, gentle and compassionate, caring tenderly for all that you have made.” – Every Moment Holy
