Ashley Graham says pregnancy has taught her how to relinquish control, particularly of her body. Model Ashley Graham is currently pregnant with her second child.

However, she says she can’t even remember what her body felt like before getting pregnant with her first child, Isaac Menelik, in 2019. “I think being in control when you’re pregnant, it just gets thrown out the window,” Graham told People.

Ashley Graham Talks Learning to Relinquish Control During Pregnancy

Graham and her husband Justin Ervin first announced they were expecting their second child in July. The great news came about a year and a half after they welcomed their first son into the world in January 2020.

Admittedly, as many first-time moms attempt to do, Graham said she tried to control every single thing when she first got pregnant with Isaac. I learned that the hard way when I tried to control everything when I was pregnant with Isaac and I told myself that I was going to bounce right back because I was breastfeeding and everybody told me, ‘Oh if you breastfeed you’re going to lose all the weight.’”

However, that wasn’t the case. As Graham continued, she admitted that she did have a  “few honest women tell me you will never feel the same. So they were just blunt with me and sure enough, I haven’t felt the same.”

And while she may have never felt the same after becoming a mom, now she admits, she can’t even remember how she used to feel. “And then boom. I was like, ‘Well, I just got pregnant again so maybe I’ll never feel the same and I don’t even know what I felt like before I was pregnant with Isaac anyways.’”

Ashley Graham Talks Community and Why It Was So Helpful for Her

“I think that the best thing I did was find a mommy community and when I’m pregnant, I find other pregnant people to just call and ask [questions] because this pregnancy is so different from the last and different symptoms, different feelings,” Graham says. And then when the kid gets here, then you have a whole other slew of questions because they don’t come with a manual, so [I’m] all about the community. And I think that if I didn’t have that, I would be so lost.”

What the public doesn’t know yet is if the couple is welcoming another boy into their growing family or if they’ll welcome their first baby girl into the world. It’s unclear if Ashley Graham has any plans of revealing that information prior to their second child’s birth.
