Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have had a very busy year so far – their first child, Archie Harrison, arrived in May, they launched their official @sussexroyal Instagram account, they’ve been the focal point of thousands of news stories and, most recently, they were named one of Time’s “Most Influential People on the Internet.”
The accolade was largely given in recognition of their Instagram account which has grown to over 9.1 million followers since being launched in April. The most popular posts on the Royal couple’s page are of their son, Archie, but many of the images they share detail the couple’s work as royals and the causes they support, including mental health awareness and climate change.
Meghan Markle Mom-Shamed After Archie Harrison Makes His First Public Appearance
Earlier this month, Archie made his first public appearance, watching his dad and uncle play a polo match. Duchess Meghan held two-month-old Archie on the sidelines throughout the charity match, while the youngest royal dozed. Onlookers told People that the Duchess was “doting on him, there’s no doubt about that. She was kissing and stroking him and bouncing him up and down.”
Of course, no outing would be complete without some unsolicited online feedback. After pictures of Duchess Meghan holding Archie were shared online, commenters mom-shamed her for holding the baby the “wrong” way.
User @fanypark4 commented, “Smother, I mean, Mother of the Year award goes to Meghan Markle! Archie looks so uncomfortable. Poor kid. Being used as a prop by her mother.” @vwhummingbird said “she looks terribly uncomfortable with a baby…body language says it all.”

Meghan and Harry Attend the Lion King Premiere
Meghan and Harry also recently had a date night, attending the premiere of The Lion King in London. The couple chatted with the stars of the movies and event attendees, including Beyoncé and Jay Z, Billy Eichner, Pharrell, and Seth Rogen.
On the red carpet, Beyoncé took a moment to congratulate Harry and Meghan on their new baby, telling the couple, “that baby is so beautiful.” Harry excitedly shared with her that Archie was now holding up his head on his own, telling Queen Bey his son is “not so little anymore”
Meghan Markle at Wimbledon
Meghan, who has been spending the majority of her time with Archie at the couple’s home, Frogmore Cottage, was also recently spotted watching friend Serena Williams play at Wimbledon. Meghan attended two matches – one on her own and one alongside sister-in-law, Duchess Kate Middleton, as well as her sister, Pippa Middleton.
That’s one busy mama!
While Meghan received many, many positive comments in response to her recent public appearances, she has faced some criticism from followers and the media. Some attacked her for the way she held Archie during his first public appearance, while others commented on her having “too much” security at Wimbledon. Fortunately, she still has many allies. After Pharrell gushed about her and Prince Harry’s relationship at the Lion King premiere, the Duchess responded, “Thank you, they don’t make it easy.”
