A Second Explosion Caused by a Gender Reveal Rattles Neighbors for Miles

A Second Explosion Caused by a Gender Reveal Rattles Neighbors for Miles | "They shot it with a rifle, which is legal. They are in the county, they are not in the city limits of Waukee, as far as we know its legal."

A second gender reveal explosion shook a neighborhood not far from where a grandmother lost her life during a separate gender reveal party.

According to KCCI, the second explosion occurred 24 hours after 56-year-old Pamela Kreimeyer died on October 26 when the device meant to push pink or blue smoke into the air exploded like a pipe bomb, creating a piece of shrapnel that hit Kreimeyer in the head, killing her instantly.

The following blast took place roughly 45 minutes away in Waukee, Iowa. Fortunately, while no one died at this particular gender reveal party. However, neighbors nearby say the blast at the party was so strong it shook their homes.

The expectant couple purchased a Tannerite reveal boom box kit at a local sporting goods store, according to KCCI. During the party, the couple shot the explosive device with a rifle creating an explosion that was felt by people as far as two miles away.

The Daily Mail also reported that the blast blew out a neighboring home’s window. However, no other sources have confirmed that.

One fellow Waukee resident, Kelsey Melone, said of the blast, “My wife and I just stared at each other, and she was like, ‘What was that?’ I thought it was something in the basement, looked in the basement, checked upstairs (and) checked the garage.”

Another resident, John Volk, added, “I ran out the back trying to figure it out. I looked at my neighbor’s yard. Everyone behind me looked like they were intact.”

Waukee Fire Department Captain Tommie Tysdal told KCCI that while the reveal created quite the disturbance around the town, it was legal. “They shot it with a rifle, which is legal. They are in the county, they are not in the city limits of Waukee, as far as we know its legal.”

Tysdal continued, saying that while there were no reported injuries, it’s important for people to realize that when dealing with any sort of explosives or explosive devices, it can turn dangerous and even deadly.

In the case of Pamela Kreimeyer’s death, the homemade device was accidentally put together like a pipe bomb. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Kreimeyer was roughly 45 feet from the device when it exploded like a pipe bomb.

Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt issued a similar warning at the time, saying, “This family got together for what they thought was going to be a happy event with no intent for anyone to get hurt. What ended up happening was that Pamela Kreimeyer  a wife, mother and grandmother — was killed by a piece of metal where a metal stand, gunpowder and colored powder were involved. This is a reminder that anytime someone mixes these things, there is a high potential for serious injury or death; please do not take these unnecessary risks. My condolences go out to the family.”
