Anne Hathaway Opens Up About Fertility Struggles After Announcing She Is Pregnant With Her Second Child

After announcing late last week that she is pregnant with her second child, Anne Hathaway opened up about her infertility struggles in a video clip shared by Huffington Post on Twitter.

Hathaway shared her exciting baby news on Instagram last week with a glowing pic of her growing baby bump. She captioned the image, “It’s not for a movie…#2.”

In addition to the excitement, Hathaway followed up her initial caption, saying, “All kidding aside, for everyone going through infertility and conception hell, please know it was not a straight line to either of my pregnancies. Sending you extra love.”

Hathaway, who is married to Adam Shulman, shared with Huffington Post that she wanted to be sure to include the latter part of the message so that anyone struggling with fertility didn’t feel alone or saddened by her joyous news. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, about 10 percent of women have difficulty getting or staying pregnant

“I think that we have a very one-size fits-all approach to getting pregnant,” Hathaway said. “And you get pregnant and for the majority of cases, this is a really happy time.”

“But a lot of people who are trying to get pregnant — that’s not really the story,” she continued. “Or that’s one part of the story. And the steps that lead up to that part of the story are really painful and very isolating and full of self-doubt. And I went through that.”

Hathaway went on to say that she has been “blown away” hearing from other women about their own fertility journeys, helping her to feel less alone during the process. In sharing her own experience, Hathaway wants to let women know that they have a “sister” in her if they too are struggling.

Hathaway and Shulman also have one son, three-year-old Jonathan.
