Nightbirde, or Jane to her loved ones, was one of America’s Got Talent’s most talented contestants. Unfortunately, her time on the show was cut short when her health declined as she battled cancer.
On February 19, the singer passed away at the age of 31. Soon after, her family used her Instagram account to share the very last video she ever took.

The video, as her family wrote, “is like JANE knew the words she needed to leave us with before she left. We hope her words comfort you all as you mourn.”
In the video, Jane shared a message about grief and what it means to grieve. She used her message to eliminate the stigma that grief somehow means all hope is lost.
“Just because you’re sad or grieving doesn’t mean that you’re not grateful and doesn’t mean you’re not hopeful. It doesn’t mean that you’re still not fighting for your life, that you still don’t have it in you to keep going.”
Jane said that grief, sadness, mourning, anger, all of these feelings are ways of “honoring what was lost.” As Jane continued, she said, “These are ways we communicate to the world that, a read a quote that said, ‘Sadness is the soul’s way of saying THIS MATTERED.’ And I think grieving and feeling through all of the emotions that you feel, I think it’s holy work.”

Also attached to Nightbirde’s final message was a statement from her family. It read, in part, “After a four-year battle with cancer, Jane Kristen Marczewski, also known as Nightbirde, passed away on February 19th, 2022.”
“Many remember her from America’s Got Talent, where she performed her hit song, ’It’s OK’ and inspired millions of people around the globe with her messages of faith and never giving up. Those who knew her enjoyed her larger-than-life personality and sense of humor. She had a witty joke for every occasion—even if the joke was on her.”
In honor of her life, her family is raising money “to create a memorial foundation to donate to cancer research and give grants/support to those who may be unable to afford the treatment they need. The proceeds from this fund will be used to honor Jane’s memory by allowing her dream and inspiration to carry on.”
