Shortly after sharing a rare photo of their family on vacation, it’s been revealed that Richard Gere was hospitalized.
According to reports, Gere was hospitalized after falling ill with pneumonia. Now, his wife, Alejandra Silva, is speaking out.
“I woke up this morning, and I saw the news and all your kind and [worried] messages. He is recovering ❤️???? he is feeling much better today!” Silva shared with her followers while updating them on Gere’s health.
“The worst has already [passed]!” she continued. “Thank you all for [your] sweet messages. We really appreciate them! ♥️♥️ #thankyou.”
Alejandra Gere, nee Silva, celebrated her 40th birthday on February 16th – taking to the beach with her two youngest children, who she shares with husband and actor Richard Gere. She shared a photo of the occasion on Instagram, showing her holding her 4-year-old’s hand with her youngest off in the distance.
“Thank you all for the birthday wishes.. after almost 3 weeks of everyone being sick in our family, today; finally, I feel much better! Thank you for all the love ❤️ I give it all back to you!” she wrote in the Instagram caption, as many took to the comments section to share red heart emojis and wish her a happy birthday.
As in all of her photos of the youngins – which don’t come too often – her children’s faces were hidden as their backs were to the camera. Not only that, but some users were wondering where Richard Gere, who didn’t appear in the photo, was – but many were quick to point out that someone had to take the picture!

Richard Gere, 73, was a family friend of Alejandra Gere – whose father was Ignacio Silva, the former Vice President of Real Madrid Football Club – for more than a decade. The two reportedly started dating in 2014 and remained together for nearly four years before deciding to tie the knot in early April 2018.
They married at Richard’s Pound Ridge estate, and they’ve been happily married ever since. She posted about their two-year anniversary on May 5, 2020, sharing photos from their special day. “Today is the day I married the most wonderful man I have ever met,” she wrote, implying they married later than reported.
“I know it sounds cliché, but it’s true!! Comes from my heart; I’m so proud to be with you, to share this life with you, to be the mother of our children, to be your friend, to be your Wife! You make me sooo happy! You are the love of my life ♥️” she continued in the Instagram caption. Their blooming smiles say it all.
In the weeks following their marriage, an ‘film source’ spoke to PEOPLE about Richard’s newfound happiness in life. “He has been much happier in this half of his life because he is settled, confident, and doing what he likes,” the source explained. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors together!
Richard and Alejandra Gere Have a Beautiful Family
Since making their marriage official, Richard Gere, and Alejandra Gere have welcomed two happy and healthy children into their lives. Their first son, Alexander, was born in February 2019 – a year after the couple married – and their second son was born in April 2020, though they haven’t revealed his name yet.
While they enjoy living life as a family of four, both Richard and Alejandra have sons from previous marriages. Richard had a son, Homer James Jigme Gere, with ex-wife Carey Lowell in 2000 – he just turned 23. Alejandra gave birth to a son, Albert Friedland, in 2012 with ex-husband Govind Friedland.
Despite having two young children at home and turning 74 in a few months, Richard Gere continues to add to his acting legacy. He’ll be starring in an upcoming comedy-drama film titled Longing, which was written and directed by Savi Gabizon. It stars Diane Kruger, Suzanne Clément, and Marnie McPhail.
