Alec Ingram passed away on November 7 after a long battle with bone cancer, and thousands nationwide got together to honor his dying wish.
Alec, 14, wanted “race cars and sports cars to take him to his final resting place,” and 2,000 people got together to give him just that.

“Our sweet boy lived more life in his 14 yrs than a lot of us could ever imagine,” Alec’s mom wrote on the family’s Facebook page, Alec Ingram’s Fight with Cancer. “It gives me so much peace knowing how loved our sweet boy was and always will be. Alec is no longer in pain or has to fight this awful disease…He did it his way. Forever our superhero.”
Dana Manley, creator of Sydney’s Soldiers Always, helped fulfill Alec’s wish. The organization was developed to honor Dana’s daughter who died at age eight. Their goal is to complete bucket list wishes for kids with terminal diseases.

“When Sydney passed, she had a motorcycle escort like this one but with 3,500 motorcycles,” Manley told CNN. “When Alec saw Sydney’s escort, he said, ‘That’s really cool, but it would be even better with sports cars,’ and that’s why we organized it.”
People from all over the country participated, including drivers from California, Indianan, Michigan, Florida and New York, according to CNN.
Many participants shared why they participated on the Facebook page, Sports Cars for Alec
“It was a huge honor for me to come out from California and be part of Team Alec,” said one driver. “I would totally do it all over again in a heartbeat.”
The touching effort by strangers from near and far did not go unnoticed by Alec’s family. “It was so overwhelmingly good for me to see how much my boy was loved,” Alec’s mom told Dana after the funeral.
