The journey towards motherhood can come in many different shapes and sizes. Whether it be conceiving naturally or with the help of in vitro fertilization (IVF) or other fertility treatments, it doesn’t matter how you get there becoming a mother is a very special milestone for those who wish to become one.
However, because fertility issues can be quite isolating, actress Becca Tobin is trying to change that for other women also going through IVF. As a result, the former Glee star and current host of the Lady Gang podcast has been filming parts of her journey and sharing those videos on Instagram.

From the decision to grow their family with the help of IVF to how many embryos they were able to extract and what the future holds for her and her husband, businessman Zach Martin, Tobin doesn’t hold back when it comes to the good, the bad, and the beauty of IVF.
“Today’s an exciting day, Zach and I are starting our IVF journey. I am sharing this because I’m normally pretty private about this stuff but the whole mission of the Lady Gang is to share our experiences and our stories in hopes of making other women feel less alone,” Tobin said in her first video.
From there, Tobin and Martin shared how the first video call with their fertility doctor, Dr. Said Daneshmand, went and continued in their next video talking about the treatments she had to endure before going through the egg retrieval process. As Tobin wrote as the caption of her second video which detailed all of the many, many shots her husband had to give her, “This certainly cured my needle phobia.”
In the end, Tobin revealed that her team of doctors were able to harvest five “really healthy embryos.” And they couldn’t be more excited about that. However, as life has a funny way of letting you know exactly where you’re suppose to be, following the egg retrieval process, Tobin learned that she had landed a role in a new television show.
“We were going to transfer because as it turns out we are going to be moving to Canada for six months for me to shoot a series up there. I’m feeling very grateful. I’m also laughing about when you make plans they get derailed by the universe and that’s okay. We are getting the best of both worlds. We froze some embryos, I’m going off to do a job and because of that process we have the flexibility and the freedom to transfer embryos when we feel like it’s the best time for our lives.”

Tobin then shared a message to those thinking about enduring the IVF process in hopes of starting or growing their family. “I would tell anyone considering this, the difference that it makes for your peace of mind and stress is incredible,” Tobin said while also adding that she understands that not everyone can afford to do something like this because many insurances do not aid in the cost of fertility treatments, which Tobin says she hopes changes soon.
