This Couple Married in 1951, Remained Together for More Than 68 Years, Then Died Within 33 Hours of Each Other

A couple who had been married for more than 68 years died within one day of each other just days before Thanksgiving.

Corinne and Robert “Bob” Johnson have been together since they were children. They grew up next door to one another and fell in love. The two got married in 1951.

Corinne and Bob Johnson were married for 68 years and died within 33 hours of each other.

On Sunday, November 24, Corinne, 87, passed away from congestive heart failure. Just 33 hours later, Bob, 88, died after a battle with cancer.

“They went on their own terms,” the loving couple’s son, Brent Johnson, told KARE 11.

Brent told the outlet that his father was known for his chivalry, letting his wife and others go ahead of him.

“So it was only fitting that, in the end, he waited for mother to go first and then he passed away,” he told the outlet.

Corinne and Robert ran a farm together, raising livestock and growing crops. The couple had seven children together and raised their family in rural Minnesota. In addition to their children, they had 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

“Robert’s hands were evidence he was a hard worker on the farm but he always made time to be there for his seven children,” Bob’s obituary said. “He would milk the cows at all hours of the night in order to go to his children’s sporting events. He and his wife put thousands of miles on their car to watch their kids participate.”

While it’s heartbreaking to lose both parents in such a short amount of time, the couple’s children have taken comfort in the fact that their parents are now together again.

“I think we all fretted about what would happen when one of them went and how would the other one survive and their plan was to not have us worry about that,” their daughter Lora said. “How could anything be better than that?”
