An Australian widow has used her late husband’s lucky lottery number for two decades — and it seems her payday finally came.
The woman, whose name has not been reported, revealed to contest officials how she had zero idea about the amount — a $737,030 jackpot— she won when she returned to the shop where she purchased her winning ticket in Happy Valley.
The store obviously was not able to pay up when she arrived on November 30.
It was then that the clerk revealed to her the exact amount she had won.
“I just went to the newsagent to buy the paper and scanned my ticket, and they said they couldn’t pay it,” she said.
“I’ve been playing these same numbers for donkey’s years. I reckon 20 odd years I’ve played them every week,” she added.
“I’ve always thought one day they’d win the big one.”
She revealed how her good luck is owed to her late husband, who played the very same numbers each year prior to his passing.
“My late husband chose those numbers all these years ago. I don’t know why he chose them, but we’ve been playing them ever since,” she said.
“Like everyone, we’ve had a bit of a s - - t year, and this will help everyone get back on their feet,” she said.
“[What] I really want to do is get myself some new fences for my house,” she added. “We’ve lived here for 46 years, and I’ve always wanted new fences, so I’m finally going to get those done!”
