25 Beautiful Bakes From Former Great British Bake Off Contestants That Will Make You Drool

The Great British Bake Off is back, baby! New episodes of your favorite sleepy show about polite folks from the UK competing for a cakestand has returned to help ease the tensions caused by this smoldering trash pile of a year. New episodes are streaming every Friday on Netflix and we could not be more excited about it!

In honor of GBBO, we decided to take a look at bakers and former contestants who appeared on the show to see what they’ve been cooking up lately. As you’d expect many of your favorites have still got it and they’re creating gorgeous bakes ranging from cakes to Kanelbullar. Take your mind off of that bad thing that’s wearing you down and come enjoy photos of some of the most beautiful confections we’ve ever put our eyes on.

What a stunning, shimmering, joy of a tart. It’s so neat and tidy and we wouldn’t expect anything less from the eternally boyish and clever Henry Bird.

Summer in a Tart by Season 9’s Rahul Mandal

Ruhal Mandal, the winner of series nine of the show, is still not afraid of adventurous flavor pairings as we see with this fruity summer tart. The flowery crust cookie bits are about the cutest thing we’ve ever seen.

Decadent Ferrero Rocher Cake by Season 5’s Chetna Makan

Yum! Semi-finalist, Chetna Makan had us craving her chutnies the entire season. She’s gone rather decadent with Ferrero Rocher chocolate drip cake. Unfortunately, it’s not filled with chutney, but it does look like it’s filled with love.

Petit Pistachio Lemon Buns by Season 8’s Sophie Faldo

Former winner, Sophie Faldo was a steely competitor on her season and her heads down approach helped her clinch the title of Britain’s Best Baker. These pistachio and lemon flavored buns look downright dreamy.

Salty Peanut Butter and Oreo Tart by Season 1’s Edd Kimber

One thing is certain, chocolate is better with a touch of salt! Former winner, Edd Kimber knows this well as this chocolate, oreo, and peanut butter tart is flecked with flaky sea salt (Maldon). We could easily eat this tart in a single sitting.

Lucious Blood Orange and Olive Oil Cakes by Season 5’s Martha Collison

We were really rooting for the young Martha Collison (the youngest ever contestant). She had sensibilities beyond her years and this charming blood orange cake looks like classic Collison.

Darkly Divine Chocolate, Hazlenut, and Espresso Cake by Season 7’s Benjamina Ebuehi

Benjamina Ebuehi was quietly one of the funniest contestants to ever join the show and her bakes always (almost always) looked divine. In fact, we can say with certainty, she’s the reason we have rewatched this season of GBBO more than any other. Coffee and chocolate go together beautifully in this handsome, rustic cake.

Cheery Rhubarb and Custard Cake by Season 8’s Liam Charles

Baker Liam Charles is such a charmer and it has suited him well in his roles as host of two separate spinoffs of GBBO. This whimsical looking rhubarb cake looks delightfully tangy and we’d love a big slice.

Whimsical Sandcastle Cake from Season 9’s Briony May Williams

Your girl from Bristol, Briony May Williams was such a delight to watch compete. Here, she’s created a sandcastle cake but, as you probably guessed, the cake does not use sand. She explained in the caption for this photo that it’s a favorite of hers to bake because it’s supposed to look messy. Cute!

French Charlotte aux Fraises by Season 9’s Manon Lagrève

????RECIPE????. Charlotte aux fraise! Think a moussy fresh strawberry cake, surrounded by “biscuits à la cuillere” ???? Light and sweet, no bake required, I am definitely going to make it lots this summer! . Don’t forget the save the recipe to find it later ????. . INGREDIENTS. – 500g of strawberries (400g in purée – food processor or just a fork). – 300@of double cream. -3/4 sheets of gelatine (or agar agar). – 170g of Greek yogurt. – 1 pack of “biscuit à la cuillere” (easy to find in any shops). – 150g of sugar. . METHOD. 1. Purée the strawberries and keep about 6/7 to decorate. Set aside. 2. Make a syrup using some 200ml of just boiled water, and half of the sugar (75g). Wait until the sugar dissolves, and dip your biscuits one on one, and place around a greased round tin (mine was 15cm). Set aside. 3. Make a chantilly with your double cream by whisking it with a mixer. Add the rest of the sugar, the yogurt and finally the strawberry purée. Humidify the gelatine in cold water for 2 min. Then drain, and add 2/3 tbsp of hot water on it for it to dissolve. Add straight to the cream mix. 4. Assemble the Charlotte: spread some cream at the bottom, cover with slices of strawberries, and do that a couple of time until you reach the top. 5. Earthy Rye Sourdough Loaf by Season 6’s Flora Shedden

For those who also have a little pet sourdough starter keeping them company at the moment recipe for this biggie below. 350g warm water 150g active starter 350g strong white flour 100g wholemeal spelt flour 50g dark rye flour 25g water 15g salt Combine the first set of ingredients together either by hand, mixing for five minutes, or in a mixer for 3-4 minutes. Cover and rest the dough for 30 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients (the salt and second load of water) and “squelch” in the dough to combine. Once well mixed cover and rest for an hour. Fold the dough over its self with wet hands and turn 180 degrees and repeat. Cover again for another hour before folding once more. If you live in a cold house you may need to give the dough one more hour of proving. If the dough is well risen and warm you should be able to shape after the 2.5hrs. Tip onto a lightly floured work surface and shape into a tight ball. Dust the top with flour then tip seam side up into a banneton or tea towel lined bowl. Prove for an hour in a warm spot then place in the fridge over night. To bake preheat a large pot and lid (ideally cast iron but this baked in a stainless steel and glass lidded soup pan) in an oven set at 250C for thirty minutes. Tip your dough seam side down into a round of great proof paper cut slightly larger than the dough. Score then place into the hot pot. Bake with lid on for 20 mins then with lid off for a further 20. Slice whilst hot and ignore all the angry bread purists who think this is blasphemy and will no doubt send me hate mail now. Drown in butter and a little sea salt and forget the total chaos that is happening around us. Love and carbs to all.

We all know that staying in, social distancing and self isolating where needed is for the greater good and I am SO thankful for those of you who are doing that ????????????????????????⁣ ⁣ But what about your good? Well don’t you worry because I’ve got you ???? I’ll try & churn out as many recipes as I can over the next few weeks to help keep your bellies happy, brains sane & all that self love topped right up. And also plenty of pictures of Milo because honestly, that kid is just a ray of sunshine that we all need ✨????⁣ ⁣ I’m going to try keeping it real simple so using things you might have lurking in the depths of your cupboards. So for my deliciously easy Raspberry & White Chocolate Cookies, you’ll need…⁣ ⁣ 225g Unsalted Butter, at room temp⁣ 225g Caster Sugar ⁣ 175g Condensed Milk⁣ 2tsp Vanilla Bean Paste/Extract⁣ 360g Self Raising Flour⁣ 160g White Chocolate Chunks ⁣ 180g Raspberries, fresh⁣ ⁣ You do it like this…⁣ 1. Mix butter & caster sugar until light & fluffy⁣ 2. Add in condensed milk & vanilla & mix ⁣ 3. Sift in flour, add in chocolate chunks & mix until the flour is completely combined with the butter ⁣ 4. Add in the raspberries and stir until just combined. The raspberries will break up but that’s all good!⁣ 5. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper & use an ice cream scoop to scoop out the cookie dough. Pop into the freezer for a few hours. If you don’t have the patience of a Saint, they can go straight in but just leave enough space in between each ⁣ 6. Heat oven to 180C/160C Fan. Pop the cookie scoops in & bake for approx 12-14 mins. Once baked, leave on the tray for a few mins to slightly harden before transferring to a cooling rack and we’re done! ⁣ ⁣ These babies are absolutely deliciously gooey straight from the oven so you’re best to eat them quick (I know whataaaa drag ????)
