When it comes to her conservatorship, Britney Spears feels “overprotected,” a source told People. But when it comes to effectively ending the conservatorship for good, right now that’s just a dream of the 38-year-old’s.
As of right now, Spears’ conservatorship will be in effect until at least February 2021. “Britney still wants the conservatorship to end at some point,” a source close to the pop star told People. “But more urgently right now she doesn’t want her dad to regain the sole conservator role.”
Britney Spears Does Dream of Ending Her Conservatorship
Currently, as Mamas Uncut previously reported, Spears’ 68-year-old father, Jamie Spears, filed a petition with the Superior Court of California in August, asking to have him and Andrew Wallet, “an attorney who once helped oversee the singer’s finances,” reinstated as her co-conservators. Currently, a licensed conservator, Jodi Montgomery, as been looking after the pop star’s finances after Jamie stepped down from the position in September 2019 due to personal issues.
However, shortly after Spears’ father filed the petition, the singer replied to it, telling the courts that she is “strongly opposed” to her father being reinstated as her conservator. “Jamie is very old school,” the source said. “He treats Britney like a child.”
The entertainer’s conservatorship began in 2008 after she had endured several public emotional and mental breakdowns. As a result, for the last 12 years, the courts have ruled that Spears is not capable of looking after her own finances and health care.
The source continued telling People that “Britney wants someone who is respectful and considerate to be in charge of her conservatorship. Someone from the outside who is not her family,” which is why she prefers Montgomery to her father. She wants “someone who will treat her like an adult and listen to her. She will never have this relationship with Jamie,” the source added.
The mom of two is also allegedly “very disappointed in the drama that [Jamie] caused with her boys.” According to People, this is in response to the drama that occurred last summer, when the father of the singer’s two sons accused Jamie of physically abusing their 14-year-old son, Sean Preston.
Now, the source says Spears “dreams about the conservatorship ending, but this doesn’t seem realistic. She needs to be surrounded by people who look out for her.” Spears’ younger sister, Jamie Lynn was recently appointed as the trustee of the trust fund that was set up for the singer’s two boys.

Yet, despite the claims that the singer doesn’t want her father to be involved in her conservatorship any longer, Jamie told Page Six that he loves his daughter. “I love all my kids. But this is our business. It’s private.”
