R&B singer August Alsina is responding to Will and Jada Pinkett Smith‘s conversation they had on Red Table Talk regarding their temporary separation and Jada’s subsequent relationship with Alsina as a result.
As Will and Jada explained to their fans through her Facebook Watch show, Alsina first came into their lives when he was incredibly sick and Jada took it upon herself to help him get better. It the process, Jada and the singer grew incredibly close, Mamas Uncut previously reported.
According to Vulture, around the time he met the Smiths, Alsina lost his sister Chandra to cancer and became the legal guardian of his nieces before he started to struggle with a mystery illness. That illness “would eventually be diagnosed as the rare autoimmune disorder Guillain-Barré syndrome, which, like neuropathy, attacks the nervous system and can lead to pain, immobility, and respiratory failure.”
It was as Will and Jada began to have marital issues and ultimately decided to separate that Jada and Alsina’s relationship turned romantic. However, while Alsina said that Will gave him and Jada “his blessing,” Will admitted that never happened.
Nonetheless, despite their “entanglement”, a word Jada used to describe her relationship with Alsina, Will and Jada ultimately learned that they were better together. As a result, Jada ended her relationship with Alsina and she and Will continued working on their marriage.
“I wasn’t sure I was ever going to speak to you again,” Will said during their conversation on Red Table Talk. “Like the fact that I’m speaking to you again is a miracle. [Marriage] ain’t for the weak at heart. There’s just certain things that you have to go through. I wish it could be all magic and miracles.”
Now August Alsina is opening up and sharing what he thought about Will and Jada’s open discussion.
When asked why he decided to open up about the relationship now, Alsina told Vulture that it was time people knew the real story because being improperly labeled as a “homewrecker” was hurting him personally and professionally.
“People looked at me as this problematic guy who was super reckless like I’m pushing up on someone’s wife. I didn’t really like that. I didn’t like the sound of that, especially when it wasn’t the truth. I think because people didn’t have the truth, it allowed them to view me and my character a certain type of way. And that started to really eat at my soul, but deeper than that, it started to fuck with my partnerships and business relationships and money because of people seeing me as this reckless guy who’s, like, publicly announcing his love and pushing up on somebody’s wife, quote, unquote.”
And although Alsina didn’t watch the episode of Red Table Talk, he did tell Vulture that he also agrees that the word “entanglement” does best describe what their relationship was. In fact, he doesn’t quite understand why that word caused so much buzz.
“I don’t know why that word is such an issue. I would agree [with Jada]. If you look up the definition of “entanglement,” it is a complex and difficult relationship. It was exactly that. I think it’s just the language that probably stuck out to people. But I definitely have to agree with it being an entanglement. It definitely was something complicated, a complicated dynamic.”
Not to mention, the singer also just dropped a new song called, I’m sure you guessed it, Entanglements. Well, it’s like Jada said during her conversation with Will, it’s all love and it seems like Alsina agrees.
