Despite the coronavirus pandemic, Keeping Up With the Kardashians continues to film its next season. Yes, you read that correctly.
While in the middle of shooting its 18th season Kim Kardashian revealed how the family were isolating away from each other while filming scenes for KUWTK themselves “using iPhones and tripods”.
And as the second half of the season is slated to continue in September, one of the KUWTK producers, Farnaz Farjam, explained how exactly they are managing to shoot the show smack dab in the middle of a pandemic.
Farnaz began with the idea to self-shoot was actually Kris Jenner’s (but are we even surprised?)
And while a few ideas were floated at the beginning of quarantine – including assigning each family a cameraperson to live with them – it was Kris who had the idea for the family to just shoot the show themselves.

Originally, the plan was to have only footage shot on the family’s cellphones but Farnaz quickly realized how viewers would grow tired of the low-quality footage. She then decided they “needed proper interview spaces” for confessionals.
But the how being setting up the confessionals was not quite understood — so a director of photography and a technician (dressed in a full hazmat suit) created the setups in Kim and Khloé’s houses.
Each Monday, a show-runner (who is fully decked out in safety care) drops off brand-new iPhones and collects the ones the family have used to film themselves over the last week.
Usually, there is around 16 hours worth of footage — just enough to create a show.
Farnaz is ecstatic for viewers to see Kim attempting to navigate life under lockdown with four children.
Another shocker? Tristian helping with True alongside Khloé while isolating together.
