Mackenzie McKee Opens Up About Her Mom Five Months After Her Passing

“It is not how many days you are given because we’re never promised tomorrow but it’s about what you do with those days. When you die, people are going to remember you for how you lived your life.”

McKee, who is a mom of three, continued, telling E! News, “Right now is the time to stop saying, ‘Tomorrow I’ll do this.’  Live your dreams. Live your goals. Live life and inspire others, be there for others.” This is one of the many things her mom taught her and someone she plans of living out as the time passes on.

“If you truly believe you’re going to see them again one day, they are with you. Are you making them proud? Is this what they would want to see from you? You’re going to be with them again one day and you don’t want to look back and say, ‘Wow! I wish I could have made her more proud on my time on Earth.’ I’m going to see her one day. It’s going to be a fabulous reunion and right now, my job is to make her proud. My job is to live on her legacy of helping others.”

I have faced a lot of dark in my life lately. So much of it I don’t understand and when I found myself at rock bottom, I asked myself “what would mom tell me to do”? Life is no longer as simple as picking up the phone and calling her anymore. So Im doing what I know she would tell me to do which is to turn to the Bible. I was born and raised in church, and have read many scripture based books. I have been reading the Bible and dissecting each section and jotting down what I took from each chapter. Today something stuck out to me like a sore thumb. I am going through the 21 day Daniel fast as I read the book of Daniel. In Daniel chapter 3 it told a story that most of us heard in Sunday school, but I saw it in a whole new light this time. I read about Daniels 3 friends Shadrach, Meshach, and a-Bendigo being told to do as the rest of the men and bow down when they heard music and worship a golden statue or else they would be thrown in a fiery furnace. Instead of following the rest of the world, they decided to obey God and refuse to worship a false idol. So they were bound up with ropes and thrown in a furnace turned up 7 times hot. They even said before “The God we serve will rescue us, But IF HE CHOOSES not to, we still will not worship any false Gods.” Not only did they have faith in God, but they knew there was a chance his plan was not to rescue them and that’s ok. It reminds me of the times my mom would say “If God chooses to take me home, thats ok. It was his plan not mine”. The story of the 3 men ended in them walking around unharmed and the only thing the fire burned was the ropes off that bound them. So what I learned from this, If you stay faithful to God, your journey may not be easy, you may not stay out of the fire or AWAY FROM CANCER, but God is faithful and has a plan. The only thing that will burn up is the ropes of doubt that bound you. And there in the fire you will know His presence more than EVER! Dont give up and have faith, and find Jesus right in the fire with you. #alwaysbekind @angiedouthit

Psalm 9:1 “Be grateful to God for your family, friends, and loved ones. He fills us all with His grace, and He ignites us with his wise words through prayer and the Bible.” We had a very good time yesterday. Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. I wish it came around more than once a year. My kids are as goofy as I am. And my grandkids keep a smile on my face. God revealed to me all day, things I need to be thankful for. Things I never thought about. Like toothpaste and pickled okra. If u ask God to show u your blessings, He will. But be careful, it may overwhelm you. You’ll be so surprised at all the things in life you r blessed with. One year my sister got me a book. It was a scriptural inspirational book. She hadn’t read it but had heard about it. The book was not one I’d recommend ????. However, the book challenged me to try and write down 1000 things I am thankful for. It took a few years as I added to the list each evening. I think I stopped after 5000 things I’m thankful for. What I learned is that something new happened every single day that I needed to be thankful for. I challenge u to start writing down and to ???? count your blessings. Name them one by one. Count your blessings see what God has done, count your blessings name them one by one, and it will surprise u what the Lord has done???? #alwaysbekind #staystrongmightywarrior #itsonlycancer

Psalm 90:14 “Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.” Well, once again, ????I’ve got bad blood????. Therefore, no chemo. What I did get was 2 units of blood. We just had a blood drive at our HS. You can donate blood and indicate it for somebody. I had several students show me their bandages where they gave blood for me. I’m so proud of them and grateful for their compassionate hearts. I knew I wasn’t feeling like myself. This didn’t surprise me. However, I’ve been so nauseated lately that I couldn’t eat until later. By 4:15 I was hungry. I called Brad before he came to the hospital and asked him to bring 3 of the very few things I can eat. I’m sure he felt silly walking into the hospital with Mac n cheese, pickled okra, green olives, and cherry tomatoes. Hey! Whatever works right? My dr wants to see me Thursday to recheck my blood. I’m okay with whatever God has planned for me. I know his ways are perfect. I know he wants the best for me. Therefore, I rejoice. How about u? Are you able to rejoice right now? Are things too crazy in your life? It’s okay if nothing in your world makes any sense. Honestly, the only thing in my world that makes sense is Jesus. Give your issues to him, he loves u like crazy! Share that love with others. Show them what it’s like to rejoice. #alwaysbekind #staystrongmightywarrior #itsonlycancer

And while Angie managed to stay positive and connected to God despite everything she was going through, McKee admitted to getting made at God during her mom’s battle.

Nonetheless, her faith still remains strong. “She is healed right now.  She is walking in heaven. She doesn’t have cancer. She’s running her marathons. She’s not bald anymore. She’s not sick and she’s living the good life up there,” McKee told E! News.

“Life is so short. Before you know it, I will be up there with her and that has inspired me to live for God. When she got to heaven, God said ‘well done’ and I want him to say the same for me. I need to stop living in anger and know I’ll be there with her one day soon.” Beautiful.
