A 7-year-old boy was killed by a stray bullet in Forest Park, Georgia. On Saturday, April 11, Gabriel Vasquez was playing in his bedroom when he was struck by a bullet that was fired from outside his home.
Gabriel’s family set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses. Maria Vasquez wrote on the page, “Gabriel was 7 years old and was a very happy boy. Gabriel has left a big gap in his family. This family needs your support.”
Gabriel and an 18-year-old male were both shot after a fight broke out near the boy’s home.
Clayton County Police responded to a ‘shots fired’ call at 5:40 PM on Saturday, the Clayton News-Daily reports. After arriving at the scene, officers discovered that shots had erupted after an 18-year-old male and a group of other men got into a fight. The unidentified men involved in the shooting left in a white sedan.
The 18-year-old was also shot and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Clayton County police said the shooting “while unfortunate, was not random,” the News-Daily reports.

The GoFundMe page raised double its goal for Gabriel’s funeral.
Initially, the GoFundMe page had set the goal of $5,000 to help cover funeral expenses. The effort raised a total of $11,652 more than twice the goal. The page has since been closed.
Unfortunately, it’s not clear whether the Clayton County Police have pressed charges. They’ve not released any names of persons of interest involved in the shooting.
We hope justice can be served for Gabriel Vasquez, who is remembered as a “very happy boy.”
