Actress Lake Bell is finding inspiration in isolation.
On Wednesday, April 15, she shared that her 5-year-old daughter, Nova, is epileptic in an Instagram post.
‘My daughter has epilepsy,’ Lake Bell’s post begins.
“It’s taken me a few months to gather the courage to post about it because I do not want to endorse it’s [sic] existence,” she continued. “I also didn’t know why I should share it. Why tell a bunch of strangers? However, in a time where we are so isolated, I crave community. We all do. We want to be reminded we are not alone in any reality.”

Bell added:
“And above all, I am grateful… Grateful to have a partner in @scottcampbell who, with his research and smarts, is giving these seizures a worthy adversary. Scott and I, along with the care of the incomparable @childrensla, will conquer them. For Nova… so she doesn’t have to cry in fear after she gets sucked into one.”
Bell also added that the seizures her daughter experiences are “like invaders, that come on without invitation or warning.”
She then vowed to fight for her daughter, saying:
“We will fight for Nova. For her future. For tomorrow. For today. It’s a beginning of a long journey and I want/need to remember that I am not alone. And if you are dealing with a loved one with epilepsy, I get it… You are not alone.”

Bell has been married to tattoo artist Scott Campbell since 2013. The two are also parents to 2-year-old son Ozgood.
Last year, Bell opened up about her difficult home birth experiences. Speaking to her Bless This Mess co-host Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast, Bell recounted the scary moments both of her home births took the same unexpected turn.
In both cases, the baby’s umbilical cord wrapped around the baby’s neck. Bell’s midwife had to administer “three lifesaving breaths” to Nova after her traumatic birth. And then, three years later, the same thing happened when she was delivering Ozgood.
Paramedics rushed to the scene, and Bell had to be taken to the hospital so that she could deliver the placenta. While there, she said, “I was looking at my phone as they were sewing me up and I get a little video from [my husband] Scott [Campbell]: little Ozzy just barely taking breaths with the oxygen mask and I just passed out. Because I was like, ‘He’s alive,’ and then I just passed out.”
In the end, everything worked out for Bell and her family then, and we believe everything will once again work out for them now. Nova’s got fighters in her corner. She’s going to be just fine.
