A mom writes in asking for advice because while she introduced the guy she’s dating to her children’s father, he refuses to let her meet the mothers of his children. Despite having a great relationship with her boyfriend, and knowing him since they were kids, she admits she’s not quite sure how to feel about his stance on not allowing her to meet the mothers of his children.

A member of the community asks:
“I have been dating a guy for about seven months. We’ve known each other since we were kids. We have a really good relationship. We introduced our kids. It was great! They all get along very well. He attends my children’s sporting events, birthdays, etc. He has met my ex-husband. He refuses to let me meet either of his children’s mothers. He refuses to have me at any of their events. I’m not sure what to think of this?”

Advice Summary
Many of our community members think this mom just needs to give her boyfriend some more time. One person wrote, “I mean, honestly, it’s at his discretion. Y’all aren’t married and he probably isn’t comfortable with that just yet because he doesn’t wanna get any heat from his children’s mothers because they COULD be quite bitter. He probably wants to wait longer. Just because you were comfortable enough to introduce him to your ex-husband doesn’t mean you can force him to be.”
Another commenter added, “7 months dating really isn’t a long time. Just because you feel comfortable enough to have him meet your ex and have [him] around other life events doesn’t mean he is. Remember, you have one ex, he has two; which probably comes with drama. Just relax and talk to him. [I’m] pretty sure he has valid reasons that don’t involve anything malicious.”
And one mom said, “Maybe it’s at the mother of those children’s wishes for you to not attend as 7 months isn’t very long and if he’s got a history of short relationships then go figure.”
