In a shocking story, a Colorado mom reportedly teamed up with members of a far-right conspiracy group to allegedly kidnap her son after losing custody of him.
Fifty-year-old Cynthia Abcug lost custody of her son after child protective services workers were concerned he was a victim of Munchausen by proxy, according to the Washington Post.

After her son was removed from her home, Abcug began appearing in conspiracy theory videos on YouTube, including one that claimed CPS “has child trafficking rings in certain areas.”
Abcug’s daughter told a caseworker that her mom was living with “an armed man” and had “lots of weapons in her home,” according to KUSA. Her daughter also told her caseworker that the man and her mother had planned to kidnap her son, who had been removed from her custody.
The caseworker alerted the local police and Abcug was later arrested in Montana on December 30. Abcug had allegedly been working with QAnon, a “far-right conspiracy theory detailing a supposed secret plot by an alleged deep state against President Donald Trump and his supporters,” KUSA reports.
It was later confirmed in the arrest report obtained by People that Abcug did have “lots of weapons in her home” like her daughter reported.
Abucg’s daughter told her caseworker that she “could not understand why her mother did not see how this was a bad thing,” adding that Abcug had also stopped going to therapy two months earlier.
According to the Parker Police Department in Colorado, who had initially arrested Abcug, she posted bond and is no longer in custody. However, as the Washington Post reports, a Twitter account associated with the mother posted an update on January 1.
The update read, “Still fighting for my children. Need prayers I am not giving up.” On January 30, another tweet read, “I’m still in the legal fight for my children and hopefully to help other children in this situation as well. Could use prayers today for the legal fight against the system. I am back on Twitter and could use support if anyone wants to contact me via DM. God be with us all.”
Since her arrest, Abcug’s daughter was also removed from her custody. Abcug has not shown up to custody hearings or spoken to investigators in an effort to get her daughter back, according to KUSA.
Abucg faces one felony count of conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
