Gene Simmons criticized for ‘creepy comments’ as guest judge on ‘Dancing With the Stars’

Former KISS bassist Gene Simmons recently served as a guest judge on “Dancing With the Stars,” but fans of the show are taking exception to some of the comments he made while critiquing the dancers.

“Danny, I’m telling you, you’re right next to somebody, one of the more beautiful women on the planet,” he said of Danny Amendola’s partner, Witney Carson, following their set to Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On a Prayer.”

“This is a brand new experience for me and it’s difficult to look at you and to figure out which one is more hot, hot, hot,” the KISS singer added. Carson shrugged the comment off as her and Danny laughed.

Simmons raised eyebrows again while critiquing Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong’s routine to Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”

“Chandler, you’ve fogged up my glasses,” Simmons said, as he took his iconic sunglasses off.

“I don’t know what to tell you. You move me, not just with your gyrations and so on, but your beautiful face and how you were into the emotion of it,” he continued. “You’re pretty good too,” he added, pointing to Brandon.

Simmons’ appearance, which aired live on Oct. 8, drew a lot of criticism from DWTS fans, but even drew a response from Brandon, who stood there awkwardly as Simmons complimented his partner.

“I said, ‘Hold up now.’ I have two little sisters. I heard it. I said, ‘Wait, wait, wait,’” Brandon said of the exchange, according to Us Weekly

Chandler, best known for her role as Tabby Haworthe in Pretty Little Liars, had a three-letter response to Simmons’ comments, according to Us Weekly: “LOL.”

While she was quick to laugh off the comments, many fans on social media were quick to criticize.

“Gene Simmons is seriously sucking all the energy out of the ballroom with his creepy comments about the female dancers,” one X user wrote

Another user compared him to “the gross uncle who corners you at the reunion.”

Others were sharing memes urging DWTS to never invite Simmons back onto the show, while some people even criticized him for his harsh scores outside of the comments.

DWTS sets voting record during Hair Metal Night

Every week, millions of people take to their laptops and mobile phones to vote for their favorite DWTS performances of the night, all in hopes of saving those they want to see win.

But on Oct. 8, during the iconic Hair Metal Night, people were voting at a record rate.

Just two weeks after the show broke a record with 14 million fan votes, DWTS announced that they received more than 15 million votes during Hair Metal Night.

It’s the most fan votes received on a single episode in series history, dating back to 2005.

In an interview with Deadline, the show’s executive producer, Conrad Green, shared his optimism for Season 33.

“The record number of votes that week suggests to me that a lot of our audience are very passionate about a lot of our stars this year,” he said. “And the increased ratings year or year would suggest that it is the case.”

After three weeks, fans have already sent home four couples.

Anna Delvey and Ezra Sosa, and Tori Spelling and Pasha Pashkov were eliminated on September 24. Eric Roberts and Britt Stewart, and Reginald VelJohnson and Emma Slater were eliminated on October 8.
