This year, 2019, was a “very good year” for comedian Amy Schumer, she said so herself on Instagram.
Not only was she named one of the best comedians of 2019 by The New York Times, but she also released a successful Netflix special called Growing, oh and became a mom for the first time.

The New York Times called Growing Schumer’s “most skillfully frank special yet.” Something, Schumer admits, she’s very “proud of.”
Something else she’s very proud of, her 7-month-old son, Gene Attell Fischer, whom she shared with husband, chef Chris Fischer. On December 22, the new mom took to Instagram to share a collage of photos that represented all the good parts of 2019.
The collage included a never-before-seen photo from the emergency c-section she had when giving birth to Gene on May 6. However, while bringing Gene into the world, was a high point this year, Schumer admitted in a new interview that the c-section was “scary.”
Amy Schumer Opens Up About Brutal and Scary C-Section
In an episode of Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy podcast, Schumer talked more about struggling with hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness, that she dealt with throughout her pregnancy. Something she also highlighted in her “Year in Review” collage.

She also opened up about the 3-hour c-section she endured while giving birth to her first child. “Just being off birth control, I have since found out that I have endometriosis and adenomyosis, so being off birth control was really tough on my body, and so I was in pain, I was in a lot of pain.”
“And I just was emotionally depressed for probably a couple weeks, and I was just taking it out on my husband. [Chris] was great, I mean, with how awful my pregnancy was he was basically my home attendant and had to keep me alive. And he handled it really well.”
Schumer admitted that she and Chris used couple’s therapy to help them get through the tough times. However, when it was time to give birth, Schumer’s plan was to go to a birthing center. But when she got violently ill, she decided that the safest option was to head to a hospital.
“I was throwing up through the whole first hour of my C-section. It’s supposed to take about an hour and a half or something but mine took over three hours because of my endometriosis.”

The mom described c-section as “brutal” and “really scary,” but as soon as Gene was born, Schumer told Dr. Berlin, the nausea went away. Wow.
Nonetheless, despite the terrifying c-section, Schumer is looking back on her year proud of it all.
