Here’s What Jada Pinkett Smith Had to Say About Tupac Shakur Murder Suspect Getting Arrested

On Friday (September 29), Jada Pinkett Smith took to her Instagram Story to share her reaction to Duane Keith Davis being arrested in connection to the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur. His arrest came after years of admissions and claims about his role in Tupac’s death, but he’s now being held responsible.

“Now I hope we can get some answers and have some closure. R.I.P. Pac,” Pinkett Smith wrote on the Story – adding a dove emoji at the end. She and Tupac formed a close relationship while attending high school together at the Baltimore School of Arts in the 1980s and she described him as her ‘best friend.’

She has always spoken highly of Tupac and even mentioned him in Chapter Five of her newest memoir titled Worthy – which ‘answers questions about her difficult childhood, her marriage, her parenting style, her career choices, and the intense scrutiny that followed ‘the slap,’’ according to the book’s description.

The memoir hasn’t been released yet (hurry up, October 17), but she shared a snippet of Chapter 5 in an Instagram post on Sept. 20 – sharing a video of her and Pac “lip syncing ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand’ by Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince’ when they were juniors in high school, according to the caption.

“Not in a million years did I imagine three lives, three fates, would be so intertwined. And… I never would have imagined that this video would become a tangible memory, of the last time Pac and I, were simply kids together,” she wrote in the memoir – referencing her marriage to Will Smith (AKA Fresh Prince).

Jada went on to post ‘part of the original video’ of her and Tupac lip-syncing and dancing to ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand.’ Many fans took exception to her posting the video – which was posted a week before the arrest of Duane Keith Davis – because they saw it as a sign of disrespect to her husband, Will Smith.

Of course, others took to the comments to defend Jada and saw it as her honoring both her husband and her friend, Tupac. “These people in the comments are trippin they were BEST FRIENDS and Will got the girl, the man is DEAD she has a right remember and celebrate her dead friend,,” one user commented.

Jada Pinkett Smith Has Talked About Tupac Shakur in the Past

This isn’t the first time Jada Pinkett Smith has talked about her close friendship with Tupac Shakur – in fact, she has brought him up many times before. In one interview years ago, she talked about how he introduced himself to her on the first day of school at the Baltimore School of the Arts in Maryland.

“Definitely from looking at him, wasn’t necessarily the type of cat that I would even like, deal with. But as soon as he approached me, he was like a magnet. Once you paid attention to him he kind of sucked you in. And we hit it off from that moment on,” she said of Tupac – a sentiment many people would agree with.

She also talked about him during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show on June 3, 2015. She said she had ‘never in my life met a person like Pac’ and praised him for his charisma. She even revealed that the two kissed at one point, but never felt like it was worth taking their relationship to the next level.

“Being older, I have more of an understanding of what that was between us,” she said of her testing the waters with Tupac – well before she met, started dating, and married Will Smith. “When you have two young people that have very strong feelings, but there was no physical chemistry between us at all.”
