We have entered an area in which the children of famous performers have showcased their talents alongside their parents. From Margaret Qualley showcasing her acting chops to Blue Ivy performing alongside her mom Beyonce while she tours the world, we are beginning to see that talent runs deep.
However, when Alicia Keys’ son appeared on stage at her most recent show, it wasn’t because he was performing. Instead, it was because he was protecting his mom.
Over the last few months, several concertgoers have decided to through things on stage. Whether it be water, bracelets, cell phones, and more, the trend is confusing and harmful to the performers themselves and other concertgoers.
According to Alicia Keys, her 8-year-old son has heard about some of the incidents and is determined to keep his mom safe. Alongside a photo of Alicia playing the piano with her son, Gen, standing solemnly beside her, she wrote, “He heard how people been acting at shows lately. My boy serious in real life.”
Gen’s father, and Keys’ husband, Swiss Beatz, also shared the photo on his Instagram, writing, “My boy said I’m not playing no games on moms stage. He a real serious one. Thank you Gen we love you and your protection. He didn’t care she was live on stage.”
Seriously, how amazing is that? Keys and Beatz are raising their son right! And this isn’t the first time Genesis has showed off his protective side:
Recently, Tim McGraw has also spoken out against the latest trend of throwing items at performers. In a statement, McGraw slammed concertgoers for their behavior.
“I think it’s terrible,” McGraw told CNN. “I mean, you could really injure somebody and you could miss and hit somebody in the audience and injure somebody. What happens if somebody gets hurt? Then it ruins the show for everybody. If somebody can’t continue performing.”
McGraw is gearing up to go on tour as well in March 2024.
“I’m used to soft goods being thrown at me,” McGraw added. “And that’s fine, but don’t throw anything that’s got any heft to it that’s gonna hurt somebody. I just think that it’s just not appropriate to do. Everybody’s there to have fun and there’s just no need in any of that.”
