Tom Brady is one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever step foot on a football field, so it’s natural to think his son would follow in his footsteps. And while that appeared to be the case with his 15-year-old son, John ‘Jack’ Edward Thomas Moynahan, the 45-year-old retired QB can’t tell if his son is still interested.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Brady announced that he doesn’t know if he’ll continue playing next year – despite playing for his high school football team this year. Nonetheless, Brady is prepared to support his son with whatever he decides to do – adding that his son is still interested in other sports.
“And to be honest, whatever he chooses, I’ll be very happy. But he loves lacrosse…basketball’s probably his favorite sport, but he’s a very good student,” Brady told PEOPLE recently. “Again, I think wherever he ends up finding the path, I think for me and his mom just to support that is the best thing possible.”
Jack Moynahan is the only child of Tom Brady and ex-girlfriend, Bridget Moynahan. He was born on August 22, 2007 – roughly nine months after the couple split up. Brady had already started dating model Gisele Bündchen by then, but has always been dedicated to his role as a co-parent with Moynahan.
Over the past six years, Brady and Moynahan have been open about their son’s love for sport. He has always had a strong interest in the Olympics and his favorite sport growing up was soccer. “My oldest son Jack really loves soccer. He wants to be an Olympics soccer goalie,” Brady said of his son in 2018.
Once his son entered high school, he started playing football and it appeared to be his focus – he signed on as the ball boy for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021, the team his father was playing for at the time, and was seen throwing the ball around with the team on numerous occasions over the past few years.
Aside from football, Brady has posted photos of the father-son duo playing basketball against one another and enjoying a nice round of golf. And while his natural talent is obvious when it comes to sports, Brady is also proud of his son’s success in school – adding that he’s a very good student, just like his father was.
Tom Brady Enjoyed Watching His Son Play Football
Tom Brady might be seeing his son’s football career end before it ever really started, but he has a lot of good memories watching his son play football – which he described as ‘one of the great highlights of my life’ during an appearance on his Let’s Go with Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray podcast.
“Getting out there and watching him play has been so much fun for me,” he said – his son specializes as a free safety, but also plays quarterback at times. “And I don’t give a s**t how well he does. I just love watching him and seeing him enjoy it with his friends. And, you know, the camaraderie at a young age.”
Brady also factored his son’s sports career into his decision to end his own football career – retiring from the NFL in February after 23 seasons. He admitted to wanting to spend more time with family and would love the opportunity to see his son play – Jack supported him on the sidelines, so now it’s Brady’s turn.

“I love watching him play quarterback because I think there’s very few things in life that I could probably help him with,” Brady continued on the podcast. “You know, I don’t have a lot of specialties in life other than probably throwing the football. He’s just a great kid. But I can definitely help him at quarterback.”
