In case you haven’t heard, Meghan McCain – the eldest daughter of late Senator John McCain and his second wife Cindy McCain – recently added to her growing family with her husband Ben Domenech. The couple welcomed their second daughter, Clover Jade McCain Domenech, on January 19, 2023.
McCain and Domenech have been together for close to a decade and announced their engagement in 2017. They officially tied the knot on November 21, 2017, at the McCain family ranch in Page Springs, Arizona. Three years later, on September 28, 2020, they welcomed their first daughter – Liberty Sage.
As a mother of two, McCain understands what to expect following childbirth – including the weight gain that usually takes 6-12 months to lose. And unlike most celebrity mothers today, she’s completely fine with losing it the natural way, which is why she took exception to those urging her to take shortcuts.

On Monday, Meghan McCain published an op-ed for the Daily Mail to discuss her concerns over people urging her to take a popular weight loss medication called semaglutide – better known as Ozempic and/or Wegovy. Manufactured by Novo Nordisk, it was originally intended for diabetes and/or obese patients.
She talked about how a lot of her ‘casual friends and industry acquaintances’ have suggested she take it as a way of shedding her pregnancy weight quickly. Despite ‘everyone doing it’ these days and several people offering to give her a ‘free shot,’ the 38-year-old mother of two isn’t about to join the bandwagon.
“Well, let me make one thing very clear. I’m not taking it. I refuse. There’s a clear moral issue here. It’s hard to take a drug because swimsuit season is around the corner, while others need it to stay alive,” wrote McClain – referring to the fact that many who have a need for it don’t have access to it today.
And she did her research. Not only did she cite side effects that include ‘nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, and dizziness,’ but she realized that most people who take the drug end up losing more muscle than fat, and others end up gaining all that weight back – plus some – once taken off Ozempic.
Meghan McCain Calls Out Several Celebrities
As part of her Daily Mail rant, Meghan McCain called out several celebrities for taking Ozempic and hyping the product up – ultimately leading to Novo Nordisk struggling to keep up with demand, which makes it harder for those that actually need it to get it. She calls it ‘horrifying, unfair, and disturbing.’
Among those she called out were Chelsea Handler (who allegedly didn’t know she was on it), Elon Musk, Kyle Richards (who allegedly denied taking it), and referenced Jackie Goldschneider, who claimed a lot of her castmates take it. Despite being a life-saving drug, many take it for off-label reasons.
She went on to talk about the impact the drug is having on the way we perceive one another, more specifically, how we accept our bodies and appearance. “Our culture has made incredible strides towards body-type acceptance over the past few decades. And this celebration of Ozempic threatens all of that.”

Instead of giving in to the growing trend, Meghan McCain is deciding to stay away from it – that way, she can set a good example for her two daughters. “This is not the world I want for them and not the world I want for myself,” she wrote. “I would rather have a few extra pounds than shoot myself up with medicine.”
