UPDATE: Ellen DeGeneres is remembering tWitch on the 1-year anniversary of his passing.
“It’s a reminder every single day that you never know what someone is going through because he was a happy guy, I thought. And I was really close to him. And he never shared that with me.”
Ellen DeGeneres is speaking out after days of remembering her beloved friend and colleague tWitch through videos.
As it is well known, Stephen ’tWitch’ Boss became a household name when he became the resident DJ on Ellen’s talk show. The pair became fast friends and Boss became a staple on the show up until the very end.
Ellen DeGeneres Sends Video Message to Fans 11 Days After tWitch’s Passing
The news of tWitch’s unexpected and tragic passing hit DeGeneres hard. And after sharing memories of him from the show, Ellen has taken to Instagram again to share a video message to her followers and those who are fans of tWitch.
“Hey, everybody. I just wanted to say the past 11 days have been really tough for everyone. Everyone is in pain and trying to make sense of it and we will never make sense of it,” Ellen began.
“And the holidays are hard, I think anyway. But to honor tWitch I think the best thing we can do is to laugh, and hug each other, play games, and dance and sing. That’s the way we honor him, is we do the things he loved to do, which is dancing, he loved music. He loved games. So we do that.”
Ellen continued, saying, “And I know it seems hard. It seems impossible. But that’s how we honor him. And hug each other, tell each other we love each other, and let people know we are there for them. Check-in on people.”
“So happy holidays everybody,” Ellen concluded. “I know it’s not a happy holiday. He was pure light as everybody in the comments said, if you knew him you knew that. If you didn’t know him, you saw it. Let’s honor him and think about him and send love to one another.”
This message comes just a few days after tWitch’s wife of nine years and the mother of his 3 children returned to Instagram, sharing a photo of her and tWitch together. “My ONE and ONLY Oh how my heart aches. We miss you so much,” she captioned the photo.
Reports from the coroner’s office say that tWitch died at a “hotel/motel” after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. As TMZ reports, tWitch checked into the motel, located just a mile away from the home he shared with his wife and children, on Monday, December 12.
Those who interacted with the famous dancer at the hotel said he seemed fine and didn’t appear to be visibly distressed. A source told TMZ that tWitch had a small bag with him and was scheduled to check out of the hotel room the following day, December 13.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, police were able to locate tWitch after his wife, Allison Holker Boss, ran into a local LAPD precinct to share her concern. She told officers that her husband was gone but his car was still at home, something he never did.
Shortly after Allison arrived at the precinct, they received a call of a shooting at the motel tWitch was staying at. Reports claim he was found in the bathroom of his room by one of the hotel maids.
While talking with staffers, TMZ continued to report that no one heard a gunshot. It’s reported that the hotel has “separate units, and the structure is in a U-shape” making it possible for the noise to go unheard.
Stephen’s body was discovered around 11:15 a.m. PST and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner has labeled the investigation into his death as “closed.” No further information has been made available to the public.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us,” Allison began her statement. “Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends, and community above all else, and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans.”
“To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt. I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children. Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you.”
Stephen ’tWitch’ Boss’s grandfather Eddy Boss also spoke out and offered an update on how Stephen’s family, including Allison Holder Boss and his children are handling his unexpected and tragic passing.
While talking with the Daily Mail, Eddy Boss told the website that they “had no indication that anything was out of the ordinary,” he admitted, before sharing the final text message Stephen sent him before his passing.
According to Eddy, the text message read, “I love you Dad-Dad.”
One of tWitch’s last Instagram posts was a photo of him and his grandfather. The post celebrated Eddy’s 88th birthday.
The same day tWitch celebrated his grandfather’s birthday, he and Allison also celebrated their 9th wedding anniversary.
Eddy went on to say that his family, including Allison and their three children, are “completely devastated. Our question is why? Where did it come from?” Eddy asked.
tWitch did leave a suicide note for his family. According to TMZ, law enforcement says the note was discovered near or on tWitch at the time his body was discovered.
Police sources told TMZ that the note “was an ambiguous reference to his past challenges.” The specifics of what was written in the note have not been made available to the public and it’s unclear if they ever will be.
