Roughly three months ago, Jane Fonda revealed that she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma – a form of cancer that starts with the lymphatic system. At the time, she had just begun chemotherapy and was expected to continue treatment for at least six months. On Thursday, she provided an update.
And it was a good update that she referred to as the ‘BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER!!!’ on Instagram and her blog. Fonda, who will be celebrating her 85th birthday on December 21st, revealed that her cancer is in remission and that her doctors are directing her to discontinue chemo for the time being.
The news comes after the actress had her most difficult chemo sessions to date – one that resulted in a two-week recovery period that normally only lasts a few days. It was her fifth chemo session, but the others weren’t nearly as tough as this one. Hopefully, that was the last session she’ll ever undergo.

Last week I was told by my oncologist that my cancer is in remission and I can discontinue chemo. I am feeling so blessed, so fortunate. I thank all of you who prayed and sent good thoughts my way. I am confident that it played a role in the good news,” Jane Fonda wrote in a lengthy caption on Instagram.
Fonda has struggled with several other health issues and concerns in the past, including osteoporosis and breast cancer. She underwent a lumpectomy back in 2010, had a cancerous growth removed from her lip in 2019, and also had pre-melanoma growths removed from her skin that same year.
I’m especially happy because while my first 4 chemo treatments were rather easy for me, only a few days of being tired, the last chemo session was rough and lasted 2 weeks making it hard to accomplish much of anything,” the actress added in her Instagram post, sharing a photo of her at a climate change rally.
Jane Fonda has enjoyed an illustrious 60-year career in the film and television industry. She has won a Primetime Emmy, seven Golden Globe awards, two Academy Awards, and several other accolades for her roles through the years. Her legacy will stand the test of time, but she’s not done writing it yet.
Jane Fonda Shows Support for Fire Drill Fridays Rally
In addition to providing an update on her health, Jane Fonda shared how thankful she was that the effects of her latest chemo session wore off in time for the first Fire Drill Fridays rally – which took place in Washington D.C. on December 2nd. It was a special day and a busy week for the 84-year-old activist.
“Besides the rally, I did some lobbying and spoke twice at the Democracy Alliance all in an effort to stop Senator Joe Manchin’s side deal which climate activists call the Dirty Deal,” she said, adding it’s ‘basically throwing marginalized communities disproportionately burdened by fossil fuel pollution under the bus.’
She continued to voice her thoughts on the impact this ‘dirty deal’ is having on the many voters who expect more out of the politicians they vote for. “Democrats courted these voters and should remain accountable to them,” she wrote in her blog post, adding that she wants to see action and change.

She concluded the blog post with a call to action. “Please call or write your senator(s) demanding they oppose this Dirty Deal. Thanks for doing that and thanks for sending good wishes my way. I wish everyone a joyful, healthy Holiday,” Jane Fonda wrote.
