When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle premiered the first three episodes of their new docuseries Harry & Meghan, fans and critics alike were getting an inside look at the couple’s past and present life. Volume I talked a lot about the early days of the couple’s relationship and her initial meeting with the Royal Family.
On December 15th, the couple premiered the second and final volume of the docuseries – containing the final three episodes. One of the biggest topics of Volume II was the highly-publicized miscarriage Meghan Markle suffered in the summer of 2020. The couple has a theory as to why it happened when it did.
At the time of the miscarriage, the couple was in the middle of a legal battle with Mail on Sunday and MailOnline – two publications owned by the Daily Mail. Meghan was accusing the publication of copyright infringement after publishing parts of a private letter Meghan sent her father following her wedding day.
The legal battle took an extreme toll on the couple, more specifically Meghan Markle – who was facing a lot of pressure, stress, and anxiety from the court case. It was starting to affect her sleeping patterns, which are important in their own right but magnified for pregnant mothers who are resting for two.
To make matters worse, the couple were in the midst of moving into their new home in Montecito, California after stepping down from their Royal duties in January 2020 – which was made official a year later. Despite starting a new life in the US, the couple didn’t get the warm welcome they were hoping for.
“The first morning that we woke up in our new home is when I miscarried,” said Meghan in the sixth episode of Harry & Meghan. Prince Harry took that statement a step further, showcasing his belief that his wife ‘suffered a miscarriage because of what the Mail did,” adding that he ‘watched the whole thing.’
He later explained that they have no way of knowing for sure if it’s what caused the miscarriage, but he doesn’t believe it to be a coincidence. “I thought she was brave and courageous, but that doesn’t surprise me because she is brave and courageous,” he added, showing support for his wife – as he always has.
What Else Did We Learn From ‘Harry & Meghan’?
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a way of making headlines – it comes with being part of the Royal Family. They did so back in March of last year when they sat down with Oprah Winfrey for what turned out to be a bombshell of an interview, where they explained the lack of support they received from the Family.
Viewers were hoping to learn more about that in the Harry & Meghan docuseries but were left with more answers than questions regarding the matter. The couple did, however, touch base on several other aspects of their life – including how they met, their wedding, and the scrutiny they faced from the media.
Prince Harry alludes to his wife’s bravery and courage multiple times in the docuseries – at one point explaining how she reminds him of his late mother, Princess Diana. Harry only knew his mother for a short period – up until her death on August 31, 1997 – but has the utmost respect and love for her.

With that said, the couple received a bit of criticism – as to be expected – for their account of how things went down within the Royal Family and how they were treated by the press. Many critics are discouraged by the narrative throughout the docuseries, which only tells the story from the couple’s perspective.
