Over the past two years, 66-year-old comedian Sinbad has suffered several health complications stemming from an ischemic stroke on October 25 2020. The road to recovery hasn’t been easy and he still has miles to go, but he’s finally starting to show some considerable progress in physical therapy.
There were times when he couldn’t walk or speak, but the love and support he has received from friends, family, and fans has helped him maintain faith. In an Instagram photo posted to his account on Tuesday, he appears to be making strides in treatment as he begins the process of learning to walk again.
And while fans have long been asking for an update on his health – as well as ways they can help the Jingle All the Way actor – his family created a website with exactly that. Whether it’s through a donation or by purchasing a limited edition collectible figure, fans have several ways they can show their support.

Known by his stage name Sinbad, David Adkins saw his life take a turn for the worse two years ago when he suffered an ischemic stroke – which occurs when a blood clot cuts off blood supply to the brain. That night, he was rushed to the West Hills Medical Center, where they immediately started to treat him.
A thrombectomy removed the blood clot and restored blood supply to the brain. While he was weak after surgery, he was able to talk and had limited mobility. Unfortunately, complications started to appear the following day as he suffered another blood clot – though this one was only half the size as the other one.
Nonetheless, doctors performed another thrombectomy and while successful, it drained Sinbad of most of his strength. At the Cedar Sinai Medical Center, doctors discovered swelling in his brain and immediately performed a craniotomy to reduce the swelling – where he suffered another complication due to bleeding.
Over the next few weeks, Sinbad was in a medically-induced coma and on a ventilator. When he finally started to wake up, he had no mobility on the left side of his body and was struggling to hold his head up. After several more months, he was finally cleared to begin physical, speech, and occupational therapy.
Sinbad is Making Considerable Progress in Therapy
In May 2021, Sinbad was sent to the California Rehabilitation Institute, which is where he started to finally make considerable progress. By July of last year, he was finally sent home for the first time since his original stroke nine months prior. Over the past year and a half, his condition only continued to improve.
“Limbs that were said to be “dead” are coming alive and he’s taking the steps necessary to learn to walk again. In his own words, “I am not done. I will not stop fighting until I can walk across the stage again.” And neither will we,” said the family, who posted a health update on his The Journey Forward website.
Despite survival odds topping at 30%, Sinbad has overcome the odds and while they’re ecstatic to see him making more progress, they were open about the financial toll his medical expenses have taken on him and his family. To ensure he continues to receive the care he needs, the family is asking for help.

“We created this site as an avenue for those who would like to lend their support and contribute in some way. All gifts will go to the Adkins Trust to help provide for Sinbad’s care and help him continue to fight this battle,” the update read. Fans can either donate to the Adkins Trust or purchase a collectible figure.
