It has been more than four years since Chris Watts murdered his wife and two daughters in Frederick, Colorado. In that time, he has been thrust into the national spotlight with one of the most-watched murder trials in recent history and has even had a Netflix documentary detailing the three gruesome murders.
While his crimes are inexcusable and haunting, it appears he has some fans that write to him in prison – some of which send him ‘racy’ love letters that contain suggestive material. With Watts spending the rest of his life behind bars, he has nothing else to do but respond to them.
In fact, several sources confirm he’s one of the least popular people in the prison and spends all of his time in protective custody – given the nature and publicity surrounding his story. Without the letters, all he has is a Bible and photos of his family hanging in a maximum-security prison cell in Waupun, Wisconsin.
According to one source, who has reportedly spoken to Chris Watts on several occasions, women often send him ‘sexy pictures,’ to which he responds. “There are a lot of women who think he’s handsome and misunderstood. They send a lot of letters,” the source explained, giving some insight into his life now.
It’s apparently Watts’ way of feeding his ego in the only way he can – with nothing else to do and no one else to communicate with, he finds solace in the few people out there that seem to “understand” him. “The only outlet he has is with these letters,” the source said, adding that he’s ‘not popular at all in prison.’
While he has always received letters, his fan mail has apparently increased over the past two years, since the Netflix documentary – American Murder: The Family NextDoor – first aired in 2020. The documentary gave viewers an inside look at the tragedy from beginning to end, allowing them to form their own opinion.
Limitations and regulations state that prisoners are allowed to receive as much mail as possible and are also allowed to respond to said mail, so long as the messages don’t put anyone in danger or harm’s way. Pornography isn’t allowed to be sent or received, but prisoners can receive suggestive photos.
Chris Watts is No Stranger to Love Affairs
Many people aren’t surprised to see Chris Watts feeding his ego with love letters from women around the world. After all, it’s what got himself in this mess to begin with. Despite being married with two children, Watts was having an affair with one of his co-workers when he decided to murder all three of them.
The co-worker was under the impression that he had already separated from his wife, but he wasn’t even in the process of a divorce. While Shanann could tell something was wrong with their marriage in the days leading up to her death, she never thought her husband would murder her and their two young daughters.
On August 13, 2018, that’s exactly what Chris Watts did. After strangling his wife to death, he smothered both of his daughters to death – twice because they woke up the first time. He disposed of his daughters in a crude oil tank and buried his wife in a shallow grave nearby. He later confessed to the murders.

Chris Watts is 35 years old today and will be turning 36 on May 16th. He was sentenced to life in prison and will never see freedom again. As for the ‘racy love letters,’ the source has no idea ‘what he’s hoping to get’ out of them,’ adding “these women are very important to him. They’re really all he’s got.”
