I Found a Suggestive Message in My Husband’s Phone, But Should I Confront Him?

A woman writes in asking for advice after she found a suggestive message on her husband’s phone when she asked to use it. The woman doesn’t know if she should confront her husband because she shouldn’t have been snooping through his phone in the first place. Do you have any advice for this confused wife?

A member of the community asks:

“So the other day, I had to use my husband’s phone for something, and while I had it, I made the classic mistake of snooping a little bit. I found a message to some girl that apparently lives where the weather is cold, so my husband responds with, ‘I’d love to come and warm you up.’ Obviously, I am upset about this.

The message was back in August, and from what I can tell, there has been no more contact since then, but it still bothers me. I want to talk to him about it, but I also did a bad thing by going through his phone. Should I just drop it or what?”

Confront him. While there was some debate around how to confront the husband, most commenters agreed it was something they would have to talk about regardless of if she went through his phone without his permission.

One commenter wrote, “Obviously he’s hiding secrets. It’s happened to me literally. Confront him. A relationship is about honesty and respect, own up to the snooping, don’t let him turn it around on you and make you at fault.” Another added, “Absolutely address it. This will drive you insane if you don’t. Give him the chance to explain himself and decide from there if it is forgivable or not and go from there. Best of luck.”

And one woman said that while she thinks some of the other commenters were overreacting that talking with him about it is the best thing to do. “Don’t listen to these women telling you to leave your husband over a message. That is my next piece of advice. It’s a message, something you guys can get past. This is your HUSBAND, not just a boyfriend of a couple of months. Remember that when reading these comments. I hope you two can salvage the situation and I wish you luck.”
