As the defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard continues, one of the women Johnny Depp dated prior to Amber Heard testified for the defense in 2019.
The pre-recording testimony, which was played in court on May 19, revealed that Ellen Barkin, best known for her role in Drop Dead Gorgeous, had a sexual relationship with Depp back in the 1990s. In her testimony, Barkin described Depp as “a jealous man” who was allegedly drunk a lot.
Amber Heard Isn’t the First Ex to Describe Johnny Depp’s Behavior as Jealous
She also called him “demanding” and controlling,” explaining that he would often ask her questions, such as, “Where are you going? Who are you going with? What did you do last night?” Barkin further described an alleged moment of Depp expressed his jealously when they were together, “I had a scratch on my back once that got him very, very angry because he insisted it came from me having sex with a person who hasn’t him.”
She further alleged that Johnny Depp also threw a bottle of wine across their hotel room. While the bottle never hit her or anyone else, Barkin did say that it was thrown in her direction. “I don’t know why he threw the bottle,” she testified, saying the fight he was reportedly in at the time was not with her specifically, “It was more like a toss.”
Depp has denied that ever happened, adding that Barkin was holding a grudge against him. “She wanted a proper relationship with me, and I did not want that. I didn’t feel the same about her as she did me, and I suppose from that moment on she became very, very angry, and since then I have not spoken to Ms. Barkin,” Depp reportedly said, according to Reuters.
However, when Depp ended their relationship, Barkin described it as a “big goodbye.” “A lot of jealous ‘Don’t do this, don’t do that,'” she said. “I never heard from him again after that.”
This is far from the first time in this trial that Depp has been accused of using a wine bottle as a weapon. Amber Heard’s friend, Elizabeth Marz, also said Depp charged at her with a wine bottle in 2016.
Further, Heard has said it was a bottle that Depp allegedly used to sexually assault her and threaten to carve her face. The trial between Depp and Heard is scheduled to wrap up next Friday.
At that time, the jury who has been hearing the case will decide whether Heard defamed Depp when she wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post about domestic violence victims in 2018. Depp is seeking $50 million in damages as he has been steadfast in his claims that he had never physically abused Amber Heard or any other woman.
