Following the release of his official cause of death and the theories behind how his death happened, Bob Saget’s family received a win in court.
Last month, Saget’s wife, Kelly Rizzo, and his three adult children, Aubrey, Lara, and Jennifer, issued a joint statement regarding the comedian’s cause of death. In their statement, they revealed that Saget died of severe head trauma.

In their February 9 statement, Saget’s family said, “Now that we have the final conclusions from the authorities’ investigation, we felt it only proper that the fans hear those conclusions directly from us.”
“The authorities have determined that Bob passed from head trauma. They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it, and went to sleep. No drugs or alcohol were involved.”
Saget was 65 years old at the time of his passing. Investigators believe Saget lost consciousness while in his hotel bathroom and hit his head on the marble flooring.
Upon regaining consciousness, Saget moved from the bathroom to his bed and fell asleep again. Due to the severity of his head trauma, Saget fell asleep and never woke up.
Now, with Saget’s death investigation coming to a close, his family is working to keep the full investigation private. As documents obtained by E! News revealed, the family is “suing Orange County Sheriff John Mina and the District Nine Medical Examiner’s Office in Florida to block the release of records pertaining to the investigation into Bob’s death.”
“Citing their privacy rights, the family is asking the court to grant a declaratory relief so that the records can remain ‘confidential and exempt from disclosure under Florida law,’” E! News reported. In a statement released by the family’s lawyer, these steps are specifically to ensure that videos and photos are never made public.
“In order to protect the Saget family’s privacy, today on their behalf, I filed for an injunction to prevent the disclosure of any photographs or videos of Mr. Saget made by the authorities during their investigation,” Brian Bieber told E! News. “It’s very simple—from a human and legal standpoint—the Saget family’s privacy rights outweigh any public interest in disclosure of this sensitive information.”
Bob Saget’s Family Get Win in Court Regarding Death Records
In a Monday ruling, Ninth Judicial Circuit Judge Vincent Chiu granted the Saget family a permanent injunction to block the release of the records associated with Saget’s death.
“The entire Saget family is grateful that the judge granted their request for an injunction to preserve Bob’s dignity, as well as their privacy rights, especially after suffering this unexpected and tragic loss,” the family’s lawyer, Brian Bieber said in a statement issued to People.
“We are pleased this issue has been resolved, and the healing process can continue to move forward,” Bieber’s statement continued. “All of the prayers and well wishes continuously extended to the family are beyond appreciated.”
Since his untimely passing, Rizzo has used her social media to keep her husband’s memory alive.
“2 whole months,” Rizzo caption her latest photo. “I’ve experienced that now time means nothing and everything at the same time. You count the weeks, and the months, they’re strange and surreal milestones. How can it be 2 months without you?? But also it feels like yesterday you were here- and it still also feels like you never left? I like to say it’s all a very weird new universe. Learning how to navigate it is quite the journey.”
