As her tumultuous divorce from rapper Kanye West rages on, a judge has declared Kim Kardashian a single woman, per her request. But what does this mean exactly if her and West’s divorce is not yet finalized?
The decision to declare Kim Kardashian legally single comes during their bifurcation hearing, People reports. Essentially, a bifurcation hearing allows couples to legally get divorced before all of the other issues involved in divorces, like finances, child and spousal support, are agreed upon.
After a Difficult Few Weeks, Kim Kardashian Has Been Declared ‘Single’
According to a source close to the situation, Kim Kardashian has considered herself a single woman for quite some time now. “She is relieved that it’s official though. She isn’t looking back and wants everything about the divorce to be final,” the source told People.
“She is in a very happy place right now,” the source continued. “It’s taken her months to get to this point. She feels good about life.”
As Mamas Uncut has previously reported, her divorce from Kanye West has been anything but civil. And, it’s been very, very public.
From song lyrics to public proclamation via Instagram, the world was given a glimpse into the demise of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s marriage over the last few weeks. As a result, Kim took this necessary measure to separate herself from her estranged husband as quickly as possible.
Together the former couple says four children. In a statement issued on her Instagram account following a slew of statements made of West’s Instagram account, Kardashian revealed that she is the primary caregiver to their children now that they are separated.
“Kanye’s constant attacks on me in interviews and on social media is actually more hurtful than any TikTok North might create,” Kim said in one of her only public statements made about her divorce.
“As the parent who is the main provider and caregiver for our children, I am doing my best to protect our daughter while also allowing her to express her creativity in the medium that she wishes with adult supervision – because it brings her happiness. Divorce is difficult enough on our children and Kanye’s obsession with trying to control and manipulate our situation so negatively and publicly is only causing further pain for all.”
Neither Kim nor Kanye have made personal statements since the judge’s decision to declare Kim legally single. However, the source says she and comedian Pete Davidson are still dating and she “loves” it.
“Her kids are great. She isn’t seeing anyone else. She is having the best time with him,” the source added.
According to People, Kim made a virtual appearance at the court hearing, but Kanye did not. Kanye did not support Kim’s wishes of having her marital status changed, and contested it, People reports.
Kanye and Kim began dating in 2012 before marrying in 2014. It’s been a year since Kim officially filed for divorce in February 2021.
