New reports are revealing Andrew Cuomo faces criminal charges over alleged groping. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, the former Governor of New York resigned from his position in August 2021 following allegations of sexual harassment.
In an independent investigation, Attorney General Letitia James said that their investigation, “revealed conduct that corrodes the very fabric and character of our state government and shines a light on the injustice that can be present at the highest levels of government.”
As BuzzFeed reported, the first woman to speak out against Cuomo was his former aid, Lindsey Boylan. In a tweet, Boylan wrote In a tweet, Boylan wrote that Cuomo had sexually harassed her “for years.”
Now, a new complaint could lead to criminal charges against the disgraced former governor. According to NPR, following the allegations that he sexually harassed 11 women, a misdemeanor criminal complaint has been filed against Andrew Cuomo.
As BuzzFeed wrote in a previous report, this police report was filed before the AG’s final report as published in August.
The complaint accuses Cuomo of forcibly touching a female staff member. According to the complaint obtained by NPR, it states that Cuomo reportedly touched “the genitals or other intimate parts” of the woman at the governor’s mansion in December 2020.
The former staffer accused Cuomo of “touching her under her shirt during a work-related visit.” As s spokesman for the New York State court system, Lucian Chalfen told NPR, “a misdemeanor complaint was filed in Albany City Court against the former governor this afternoon. As this is a sex crime, a redacted complaint will be available shortly.”
While Andrew Cuomo declined NPR’s request for comment, Cuomo had adamantly denied the other allegations of sexual misconduct. In the past, Cuomo made this statement regarding the allegations:
“I did not do what has been alleged, period. I won’t speculate about people’s possible motives, but I can tell you as a former attorney general who has gone through this situation many times, there are often many motivations for making an allegation, and that is why you need to know the facts before you make a decision.”
As a result of these latest reports of criminal charges, New York state Attorney General Letitia James said “the criminal charges brought today against Mr. Cuomo for forcible touching further validate the findings in our report.”
While confirming his resignation, Andrew Cuomo said this during his parting statement.
“I have done it all my life. It’s who I have been since I can remember. In my mind, I have never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn. There are generational and cultural shifts that I just didn’t fully appreciate – and I should have. No excuses.”
According to NPR, a class A misdemeanor could result in up to a year behind bars if he were to be convicted. It remains unclear when a decision will be made whether or not to charge Cuomo.
