On October 24, Harris County, Texas police revealed that they were called to an apartment where they discovered three abandoned children. Additionally, police also discovered the skeletal remains of a fourth child also in the apartment where the other children were.
While talking with reporters, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez called the discovery a “very horrific situation,” People reported. However, he did not reveal a specific amount of time the children may have been left alone there. Instead, sheriff Gonzalez said that the children, ages 15, 10, and 7, were alone “for an extended period of time.”
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez would later go on to say that it is believed the parents of the children did not live in the apartment for “several months.”
Abandoned Teen Tells Police What He Has Been Living Next to For Over a Year
It was the 15-year-old who explained to police officers that the remains belonged to his younger brother. The teen claims his brother “had been dead for a year” and that his body had been left “in the room next to his.”
The younger sibling was reportedly just 9 years old when he passed away. How he died remains unclear. Additionally, the Sheriff revealed that each of the surviving children appeared to be “malnourished and showed signs of physical injury.”
“Very tragic. Been in this business for a long time and I had never heard of a scenario like this. It really caught me by surprise,” Gonzalez said in the press briefing. “We’re gonna make sure we do everything we can and make sure we conduct a thorough follow-up investigation and make sure that the kids are okay.”
Now, a new update has revealed that after discovering the children in the apartment, their mother and her boyfriend have also been located. There have been no reports of any specific charges.

Both the mother and the boyfriend have been questioned by police but they are no longer in the authorities’ custody. The investigation remains ongoing.
“All in all, they seem to be holding up okay, physically,” Gonzalez said regarding the wellbeing of the abandoned children, according to NBC News. “We will make sure they are doing okay both physically and emotionally as best we can and give them the support that they need.” Mamas Uncut will update this report as more information becomes public knowledge.
