Just days after news broke that Britney Spears allegedly got into an altercation with one of her housekeepers over her dog, the Daily Mail is reporting that court records suggest Jaime Spears believes he should get more credit as Britney’s conservator. It’s important to note that while the contents of the court documents were only made public recently, it’s believed that the paperwork was filed prior to the police being called to Britney’s house.
In the court documents, Jaime alleges that his 39-year-old daughter has been struggling with both addiction and mental health issues for years. He also said that the public “would praise Mr. Spears for the job he has done” if they only knew the half of it.
Jaime Spears Defends Himself as Britney’s Conservator
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, earlier this month, Jamie’s lawyer filed legal documents that revealed he will step aside as Britney’s conservator once the timing is right. “There are, in fact, no actual grounds for suspending or removing Mr. Spears as the Conservator of the Estate … and it is highly debatable whether a change in conservator at this time would be in Ms. Spears’ best interests,” the court documents read, in part.
“Nevertheless, even as Mr. Spears is the unremitting target of unjustified attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests,” the documents continued. “So, even though he must contest this unjustified Petition for his removal, Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter’s new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator,” the documents continued. “Regardless of his formal title, Mr. Spears will always be Ms. Spears’ father, he will always love her unconditionally, and he will always look out for her best interests.”
But What Does Jaime Have to Say About His Work Now?
According to the most recent review of court documents submitted by Jamie and his legal team, Jamie seems to be refuting some of his own daughter’s recent testimony. “There is no doubt that the Conservatorship saved Ms. Spears from disaster, supported her when she needed it the most, protected her and her reputation from harm, and facilitated the restoration of her career,” the newest documents state.
“If the public knew all the facts of Ms. Spears’ personal life, not only her highs but also her lows, all of the addiction and mental health issues that she has struggled with, and all of the challenges of the Conservatorship, they would praise Mr. Spears for the job he has done, not vilify him.”
The documents further seem to acknowledge Britney’s claim of being forced to take Lithium. The filing claims that Jaime never had control of Britney’s medication, and revealed that former conservator Jodi Montgomery, her late psychiatrist Dr. Benson, her former lawyer Sam Ingham, and other experts were allegedly in charge of that.
Jaime says he only ever paid Montgomery for her services, claiming that she was given $10,000 a month of Britney’s medical expenses and noted that the cost “often went over that sum.”
However, despite suggesting the conservatorship has done more good for Britney than harm, that he can understand why the pop star felt “constrained” by her treatment plan. But again admits that it was all in her best interest.
