Eric Sauser from Omaha, Nebraska, died on February 26, and so his wife, Crystal, of 13 years decided to write a few words for him and they did not disappoint…
In a hilarious and sweet obituary that went viral for obvious reasons (more on that below) — Crystal reveals how the father of three had been diagnosed with Leukemia back in 2019 and had fearlessly battled the disease for two years before it claimed his life.
“We were shocked,” Crystal recently told ABC News about the initial diagnosis. “Eric said nothing but, ‘Oh well, it’s fine. We are going to just deal with this.’ So, that was our mantra and that’s what we followed.”
In those two years, Eric fought the disease hard. “He and I are absolutely complete opposites, but the way we managed this was as a team,” Crystal shared. “We went in with open eyes and said, ‘We are going to do what we have to do to fight this.'”
Eric underwent a stem cell transplant, experimental therapy, and several other treatments to try to keep the cancer at bay but in April 2020, the cancer reappered.
“At that point Eric said, ‘Enough is enough. I’m putting you guys through way too much,'” his wife recalled. “But through the entire journey, Eric was such an amazing guy. He always had a smile on his face … he was more worried what was going on with everyone else than him.”

“Eric A. Sauser, AKA Super Dad, AKA Easy, just a rockin’ dude … passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, February 26, 2021, at the age of 43 with his wife by his side. His departure was just in time for him to make his spiritual appearance at every Red Sox spring game. Eric is survived by his wife, Crystal, and three children, Amelia, Violet and Benjamin, all of whom will likely sleep in the same bed for many years to come (sorry, Eric).”
When Sauser died last month, Crystal began to read over obituary samples at the mortuary but she didn’t think any of encapsulated who her husband was or how he lived his life.
Crystal says her husband was a man who loved deeply — and she did not shy away from letting the world know.
“There is a good chance he told you that,” the obituary continued, adding that Eric may or may not have been sober when this occurred.
He was also a big-time baseball fan and a devoted father and husband.
“Eric loved, in this order, his smoking hot wife, his brilliant kids and family, his many friends, the Boston Red Sox, the Kansas City Chiefs (before being a Chiefs fan was cool), the Huskers, Liverpool Futbol, QT iced tea, Adidas sneakers, fishing, backpacking, hiking, hunting, and any old Chevy he saw on the road,” it continued.
In addition to leaving behind his devoted wife and kids, a large extended family, and countless friends, Eric was also “preceded in death by billions, including his dog Harvey who most of us loved to hate,” the obituary shared. “We are confident they are joyfully reconnecting right now.”
