In 2019, music executive Scooter Braun acquired Big Machine Label Group under his Ithaca Holdings LLC. In the business transaction was singer and songwriter, Taylor Swift‘s, life’s work. From her very first self-titled album to her sixth studio album, Reputation, and everything in between, was now owned by Braun and his company following the sale.
It was a move that disgusted Taylor Swift, who claimed she was never notified of the sale until it was made public, and that she was never given the option to buy her music back.

The year before the sale was finalized, Swift’s contract with Big Machine Label Group came to an end. And instead of re-signing with the label that she had been with since the very start of her career, the singer signed a new contract with Universal Music Group.
The good news, according to Variety, was that Swift’s contract with Big Machine Label Group allowed her the option to re-record her studio albums at the end of each album cycle. Quickly after the sale was revealed, Taylor Swift released a statement saying that’s exactly what she planned on doing.
The question was, when did Swift plan on taking on this monstrous task of re-recording six studio albums and how long until she made them available for download to her fans? Then, nearly two years after revealing her intent to re-record her music, Swift took to Instagram to share another statement. A statement that revealed her re-recordings of 26 of her first songs, songs from her second studio album Fearless.
Taylor Swift Is Re-Releasing Her Songs Her Way
“I’m thrilled to tell you that my new version of Fearless (Taylor’s Version) is done and will be with you soon. It has 26 songs including 6 never before released songs from the vault. Love Story (Taylor’s Version) will be out tonight,” Swift shared on Instagram. Now, you can buy Love Story (Taylor’s Version) and preorder Fearless (Taylor’s Version) on Amazon.

Swift’s entire re-recorded Fearless album will be available for listening on April 9, or so it is believed. In Swift’s statement, revealing that the re-recordings were done, she capitalized specific letters throughout. When you put those capital letters together, they spell out “April Ninth.” Taylor Swift is notorious for hiding “Easter eggs” in her statements and music.
“i Hope you’ll like this first outing as much as I liked traveling back in time to recreate it,” Taylor Swift also said in her statement. “artists should own their own work for so many reasons, but the most screamingly obvious one is that the artist is the only one who really *knows* that body of work.”
For now, it remains unclear why Swift decided to re-record and released her version of the Fearless album first, instead of releasing the new recordings in order. However, the singer did note in her statement that, “i’ve spoken a lot about why i’m remaking my first six albums, but the way i’ve chosen to do this will hopefulLy help illuminate where i’m coming from.”
