Hit comedy PEN15, created by and starring Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine, features the two playing a pair of preteen best friends who are often at odds with their parents. Now, the pair of real-life best friends might get a taste of their own medicine. After a recent, surprise, pregnancy announcement from Konkle, we can now confirm that both Konkle and Erskine are pregnant at the same time.
Konkle’s surprise announcement was followed by Erskine’s surprise reveal back in November. You cannot write the serendipity of our real world!
PEN15’s Anna Konkle made a surprise pregnancy announcement and showed off her beautiful bump on January 28.
“It only took me nine months to post, but the family is expanding any second now,” the 33-year-old captioned a series of photos she shared on Instagram.
Konkle is expecting her first child with boyfriend Alex Anfanger, as Vulture reported. Anfanger, 35, recently starred in the short-form comedy series Shark Lords, which was part of the anthology TV series Cake. The pair have been dating since at least 2015, according to Anfanger’s Instagram.
While Konkle is very pregnant and due “any second,” she was not the first PEN15 creator to make a big, baby announcement.
In November Erskine, also 33, revealed she was expecting her first child with fiancé Michael Angarano, who played drama teacher, Greg in Season 2 of PEN15. The announcement was made by sharing a photograph of herself and Angarano with her baby bump clearly visible.
“When 2 becomes 3,” she captioned the photo along with a reminder to vote.
Angarano, who has also appeared in This Is Us, shared news of his and Erskine’s engagement over on his own Instagram account. “And then there were 3… also, we’re engaged,” he captioned a picture of himself hugging Erskine from behind.
He followed the engagement news with a sweet end-of-year tribute. “I feel very lucky to have spent 2020 with you @mayaerskine,” he wrote along with an Instagram post of a short video clip of Erskine and himself laughing on New Year’s Eve.
Unfortunately for fans of PEN15, filming of the second season of the series was cut short by the pandemic. Romper reports that the show and seven new episodes will return later this year. In September, Konkle told W magazine “COVID stopped us in the middle [of filming],” and revealed the next seven episodes “probably won’t be out for a year now.”
PEN15 has gained a lot of traction since its release including a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Comedy Series. We are certain these two, extremely funny women are ready to get back to work but in the meantime, they are still finding joy with each other. A week after Konkle revealed her pregnancy Erskine shared images of the two friends comparing their baby bumps.
The series of images are completely wonderful knowing just how excited these two besties must be to do the whole motherhood thing together. We can only imagine the experience will bring the friends even closer together.

“BFFs making some future bffs,” text imposed on the image reads.
As everyone knows, we are big fans of PEN15 and find the depiction of friendship to feel so honest and so true to friendships many of us have in youth. We hope the pair will spin their pregnancies into the narrative of the show!
