Humanwear

You can thank Harry Styles for launching this trend when he dawned a Gucci dress on the cover of Vogue. Today, stars like Kid Cudi, Pete Davidson, Lil Nas X and more have since captured attention on the red carpet in designer dresses. In 2022, gender’s place in fashion continues to be redefined. Forecasting firms like Fashion Snoops are discussing “humanwear” as fashion’s future with brands offering non-gender-specific sizing for products beyond unisex-friendly sweats and tees.

Everyday Luxury

Just because we are in a pandemic, doesn’t mean you can’t dress up! Just like Cardi B when she took her newborn son for a walk while dripping in Dior — it’s time to feel luxurious for you.

“Couture is starting to feel more approachable and wearable,” said Quammie, who styles “Matrix Resurrections” actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

This is also true for red carpet looks (should you need a few ideas before your next movie premiere) says celebrity designer Elle B. Mambetov, who predicts simple and streamlined styles to become a hit in this next season. Think Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin‘s all-black outfits by Drew House and Saint Laurent during the 2021 Met Gala.

Y2K

Y2K fashion as well as pop culture are SO are in right now. From psychedelic prints, tiny backpacks, platform footwear and a sprinkle of rhinestones are exactly what you want to be wearing this year. Oh and don’t forget those cute lil’ space bun-hair dos with the butterfly clips!

Hipster Vibes

If you were ever a fan of the Tumblr girl, this look is also making a comeback. You can style this look by obtaining Doc Marten boots, American Apparel basics, slouchy beanie hats and cutoff jean shorts styled with black tights. But this time around, the style is called “indie sleaze,” with the trend boating provocative, smudged makeup, party-going side, with celebrities like Olivia Rodrigo, Bella Hadid and Machine Gun Kelly serving as the new icons.

Loose Layers

If you are not ready to part with your pandemic, cozy and comfy loose clothes — don’t worry! According to Fly Geenius designer Bean (a favorite of stars like Teyana Taylor and A$AP Rocky) says “stylish prints, looser fits and baggy everything” will be big this year, too.

But before you reach for the leggings and pullovers, 2022’s take on the trend focuses on denim and oversized jackets and puffers “with an emphasis on gender neutrality,” according to the designer.

Embroidery

If you loved the 2010 embroidery trend including handcrafted details like patchwork, crochet and mending you’re in luck! These symbols of high-quality, heirloom-worthy pieces, are all the rage as fashion brands will be turning to artisanal techniques like embroidery to spruce up their denim offerings. That being said, be wary of cultural appropriation. Brands like Bode have set the tone with embroidery designs bearing personal, storytelling elements.

Lilac & Green

If you are into pastels, this may be your year! Mambetov says softer shades and colors for 2022 will be expected.

“I really love lilac and lavender,” said Mambetov, who also serves as an international buyer for Farfetch and has been seeing the pretty hues pop up during her appointments.

And while last year, Softer shades of sage were popular, consider adding hunter, olive or electric green to your closet for the year 2022.

In 2010, designer children’s fashion took off with celebrity parents flashing their style alongside their “mini-me” with pieces from Burberry, Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney. And this year, mini-fashion is poised to make a comeback with Off-White, Thom Browne, Frame, Batsheva and more co-signing the trend. And while children’s apparel is at the heart of this revival, you can also expect to see “fur babies” get the designer treatment with looks from Diesel, Fendi, Versace and Moncler who have dog apparel lines.
