We’ve all been there — a haircut that didn’t quite go the way we imagined it.
Today, we have compiled the top 15 haircuts that went insanely wrong, thanks to the Reddit thread, “The worst haircut I’ve ever had. Before and after.”
8. Hair By A Beauty School Dropout
“This is the worst one I ever had,” one user wrote. “This one was what it looked like after it was fixed. It had to be cut that short because a friend of mine who had just finished beauty school decided to cut my hair. She had done so once before and I had gotten a ton of compliments on it. This time however… I can’t even explain what she did to it. All I know is the nice lady at a salon had to cut it short like this to even it out.”
7. “Joan of Arc from That 70s Movie”
“My friend told me that she would cut my hair to straighten out the back. That’s all I wanted,” the woman shared. “And when I looked down, almost all of my length was gone. When I looked in the mirror, I cried. She offered to fix it, but I was sure she had done enough harm. The worst part? The haircut on the right is after a professional fixed it. She was actually horrified when I came in with my initial short cut. Think Joan of Arc from that 70s movie. I looked like I had a bowl cut, like I was a little boy.”
6. The Dreaded Hair Shadow
“This is the worst it’s ever been. That was at a salon I’d never been to before, and it was PACKED,” the user began “I had to walk by everyone on the way out. MORTIFYING. As I dashed to my car, praying I didn’t see anyone I knew, I saw my giant hair shadow and almost started crying. After I got home and doused my head, the haircut was fine after some normal styling. (Thank god.) But please, haircutting people….frizzing out curly hair and making it poofy and crazy is NOT. COOL.”

5. Horror Cut
“The absolute worst cut I’ve ever had was two summers ago,” this person shared. “I was about to go to Israel for the summer, so I thought it’d be a good idea to get the mid-back length hair down to shoulder length. So the woman grabs it all behind my head, and snips at the nape of the neck. I was HORRIFIED. It ended up ear length, more or less. This isn’t the best photo ever, as I’m wearing a hat, but fair-skinned in Israel? You wear a hat. This was about a month and a half later, so it’d started growing out, but it was just bad.”
4. Drunk Pixie Cut
“I was dating a guy who liked girls with short hair, so I decided to give myself a pixie cut. While drunk,” this woman shared. “I had given myself trims back when I had boob-length hair, so I felt pretty confident. Well, I basically I chopped a whole bunch from one side, then started bawling, ‘I look like a boy!’ I didn’t take pictures at the time, but in the next few days I learned to clip it back so that it looked cute. Lessons learned: don’t drink and cut, and don’t worry; your hair will always grow back!”
3. Color Stripping Nightmare
“I’ve dyed my hair some pretty insane colors over the years,” one user wrote. “And I’d had it black with purple tips. I decided it was time for a change, and since it was black, I figured, ‘Whatever, I’ll just buy some color stripper and it’ll go back to brown.’ No. That is not what color stripper does. If you are not a stylist, don’t use it. It is bad badness. This is what happened. I look like an oxidizing penny.”

2. The ‘Dumb And Dumber’ Look
“I had let my hair grow out for about 5 or 6 months, so I went to get a trim,” a user wrote. “When the girl was done, she made me look like Lloyd Christmas from Dumb and Dumber. When I was leaving, she gave me a sad look and told me that I didn’t have to pay. I got a military cut shortly after.”
1. The Girlfriend Cut
“I’ve told this story before, but in college, I asked my girlfriend to cut my hair, because I had a gotten a last-minute interview for a job,” a poster wrote. “We went out to the backyard and I don’t know if the sun was in her eyes or if she was just nervous, but as soon as I saw the first snip she had taken from the front, I knew she had cut too much off. She took a step back and looked like she was about to burst into tears. I assured her that it was okay because there was nothing that could be done about it except try to not go any shorter,” he shared.
“She finished up and the end result was kind of goofy looking, but I wasn’t too upset. I knew it would grow out and I really appreciated her doing that, and although I kept thanking and reassuring her it was okay, it took at least a day before she fully believed I was okay with it. Had it been a professional, I probably would’ve been more upset, but everyone makes mistakes and bad haircut is only temporary.”
